just a thought but does anyone think all the injuries over the years, are really inconvenient times are finally starting to take a mental toll on him?

i understand his shot might not be where it needs to be because of the shoulder, but nothings happened to his legs, when he was throwing the body around as best he could, skating north and south like a bat out of hell and taking a hit here and there last year he was a completely different player then he is now. my point is does anyone think mentally hes playing scared, trying his best to keep himself out of harms way because hes afraid to get injured again, which is also causing him to show little effort in an attempt to play it safe out there.

just a thought but maybe hes a little mentally fragile, i mean its not like hes had one little injury they have all been pretty major, long term injuries that in most cases he came back from a somewhat different player.

"Shiny Toy Syndrome" is pretty rampant when it comes to newly drafted prospects but it doesn't exist at all with veterans.

If anything new players need to do something positive quicker before the fans lose their collective minds.

People wanted to kill Richards last year. Imagine this was Gaboriks first year? Yikes.

Nash is the MVP, but im speaking more in relation to his effect on what people think of Gaborik and Richards. Thats it.

His stellar play is making people think we dont need Richards or Gaborik, which is ****ing absurd. They were integral cogs to the team before Nash came aboard.

"Look what the new guy is doing!"

"Yeah! We dont need Gabrick and Richards anymoar!"

Two slumps coupled with MVP play.

They still are important cogs, so enough of the buyout talk and trade talk between the two just cause Nash is playing well. We need all three.

Im giving Richie and Gabs both slack.

Even if Richards turns it around buying him out needs to be seriously considered.

The only ignorance here is you expecting Gaborik to be the kind of player he never has been, nor ever will be.

40 goal scorers need to be difference makers, especially in a shortened season. He's too invisible, he needs to step his game up that's all I'm saying

The only qualification for being a 40 goal scorer is scoring 40 goals.

Apologize if this is mentioned, but I'll reinforce if so: I'm convinced he's playing with an injury (Gabby). At first I thought hip, but his legs seem fine. Really watching him, he's completely disengaged along the boards, and his snap shot, which as of last year (pre-injury) was among the best in the league, has not been there all year. I could see a situation where after the surgery he either re-injured it, or it was discovered that something did not heal correctly, and he and the team made a decision to play through it. They did this in the playoffs last year as well, no? I feel like Torts would be riding him far harder if he wasn't aware of something.

I think that's the most significant factor in his more tentative play. I still think playing on his off wing is the biggest cause for his decline, but I also understand the tentative nature of play after recovering from a major surgery.

I'll be honest. I had a labrum repair with three anchors in my right shoulder and a subacromial decompression. It's 8 months later now and I STILL have minor discomfort here and there (it's about 90% right now). And I'm 25 years old and in great shape. A shoulder surgery like that is significant, and I'd never want to go through one again. So, I'm sure he is being cautious, and for good reason. But if that was the case, he shouldn't have returned until he was absolutely 100%.

They clear you for contact sports after 5 months of recovery time, but you don't truly reach 100% until the 9-12 months mark, even for elite conditioned athletes like Gaborik. I'm sure he's still feeling some discomfort.

I would guess he is hesitant with the board play because his shoulder is bothering him and he doesn't want to experience an injury / surgery like that again.

Well, didn't Torts criticize him during the post season and later revealed that he had a torn labrum in his shoulder? Which, is kind of crummy to criticize one of your players who is playing through a tough injury as it is.

Nash is not a shiny new toy. He's the best skater on the ice. He's the catalyst. He is essentially the ****ing man.

Hank's MVP streak may actually be in jeopardy this year.

Nope, I don't think it will.

The sad part is, in a mediocre year, Lundqvist is top-10 in SV%, GAA, and Wins.

Lundqvist, on an average year, is better than Nash in a great one. That's why Lundqvist is a truly special player. Even during his "average" years, he is one of the top starting goaltenders in the NHL.

People don't realize how solid his numbers are this year, and one 5-6 game hot streak will put him back into Vezina contention.

Really? What does makes a player a 40 goal scorer in your mind?

Someone who plays like Callahan, fights like Lucic, leads the league in hits, and scores 40 goals.

Oh and they have to be born in Canada or the U.S. to. :sarcasm:

Western Canada or Northern US only.

Yes, because the Europeans are too soft.

But that damn skin lotion they give us when we are babies makes our skin so smooth though, so what can you do..

It's a scoring game, effort means jack **** if you can't score goals. And while I'm willing to give Gaborik some slack, he really needs to start scoring more goals.

i mean he does have 5 points in last 5 games.. even tho no goals he still contributing..goals will come.. nash was brought to compliment gabs.. we'll ride it out this year and see how it goes..

Marian Gaborik was brought here to score goals, first and foremost.

Honest efforts, blah blah blah. The guy isnt going to knock skulls and block shots. Hes been here 4 years now, when will it sink in?

I can only imagine in 09-10 and 11-12 what the naysayers were thinking - "he scored 40..... but he needs to block shots and hit more!"

He sucks because he let Carcillo beat him up, and that guy sucks!
