I'm OK with the trade, but just OK. How friggin' long have the Kings been in need of a LW, and Dean goes and gets a RW.

Gaborik is a china doll. Great when healthy but we're basically getting 40 games a year from him.

All that said, this:

Brown-Kopitar-Gaborik
Toffoli-Richards-Carter
King-Stoll-Williams
Pearson/Clifford-Lewis-Nolan

...looks good.

I think it was a good move for what we gave up. Frattin did close to nothing with us. Gaborik would not have been my first choice, but its probably the best deal the Kings could get. My only concern is the most obvious one. He needs to stay healthy in order to be effective. But remember when we first got Williams and how he was injury prone, and how many consecutive games has he played since he arrived? I like this deal more than the McNabb deal.

Not the same thing. Williams was always different parts of his body from leg, to knee, to finger, and I think a wrist as well. Gaborik has been his groin almost every single time since he came into the league.

Dudes groin is a liability but w/e

Well, good thing the trainers who look after Quick's groin can keep watch over Gaborik's .

Not true. Gaborik had surgery in his final year in to repair the chronic groin injury. Since then he has missed just one game from a groin injury. He had a separated shoulder and concussion in 2010-11 limiting him to 62 games and has had broken collarbone and knee injury this year limiting him to 22 games so far. Otherwise he has 76, 82, and 47 (of 47 possible due to lockout/trade) games played since signing that contract with the Rangers after the surgery.

does anybody on the Kings roster have a history with Gaborik, teammate wise or is this going to be all new people he's going to be interacting with.

There are a lot of question marks surrounding this and a lot of what ifs. The fact remains that Marian Gaborik is now a King. That's pretty cool.

Makes sense then as Toronto has the option of whether it's this year or next so I guess it hinges on that still which one the Kings give up.

It is a very complicated pick. Toronto's 2nd was either a 2014 or 2015 (their choice), but then they made a deal with the Ducks which also was conditional, but was fulfilled and gives them their 2014 pick; therefore, the Kings get their 2015 pick by default. It doesn't end there though, as the pick we sent to Columbus for Gabarok is conditional as well. Buffalo gave us our two picks back, so we have our 2nd this year and two 2nds (ours and Toronto's) next season. The condition on the 2nd is we can either give Columbus our 2014 pick or Toronto's 2015 pick and it is completely our choice. So it is either a 2014 2nd or a 2015 2nd.

It seems like the conditions are proliferating. But it makes sense. There's so much risk involved in these deals and the conditions act as a kind of hedge. Sure does get confusing.

Not looking forward to the day a GM figures out how work derivatives into it.

(Actually, I kinda am.)

Gaborik will be amazing for you guys if he's healthy.

I got to watch Gabby alot when he was on the Rangers and there were times where I honestly thought he was better than Kessel, or at the very least on Kessel's level. I hope he can help you guys score goals.
