Confirmed with Link: Marian Gaborik to Columbus for Brassard, J. Moore and Dorsett

Good trade so far.

Not getting back a high pick will hurt if Moore and Brassard take steps back next year during a full season. Anything can happen, right?

Some could say with good reason that you could have added any pieces playing those positions with an above average pulse and the team would've performed better. Zucc was the first sign of that. Then we added 3 players with legit skill, question was could they find a way onto a struggling squad and make a difference. The answer is obviously yes.

Second season starts, how long can they keep it going and will the injuries still be a problem for the depth you need for a long run?
 
I really want to see what Dorsett adds to the line-up before I evaluate this trade... Plus I'm interested to see how these players fair next season....

Honestly, Dorsett could never play a game for us and I would still approve of the trade. Obviously, though, it would add a different dimension to it if he can bring something.

Oh I already approve of the trade I just want to see if Dorsett turns into a heck of a role player for us because that will definitely change my overall impression of what we added to the line-up. Based on the feedback we got from Blue Jakcets fans it seems there is a good reason to believe that Dorsett will have an impact in our line-up, either directly or indirectly.
 
No way we make the playoffs with the pre-Gaborik trade Rangers. Depth issues would have swallowed us whole in time. Great trade by Sather in the short term so far.

yea it really did. Hard to argue against it since all that matters is how the team responds.

Brassard replaced Anisimov as it gave the Rangers a 2nd C on the PP and Richards could go back to the point. It atleast gives that option. The C depth was lacking earlier in the yr.

Moore has been big on D as the gave them a solid 3rd pair.

Dorsett who knows but he should be back for the playoffs and provide 4th line energy minutes
 
Said it in the around the league thread, but I really wish we could've gotten Atkinson in the deal somehow.

Dorsett could probably be on the 3rd line too, from how highly people have spoken about him.

I think in the long run, Brassard > Anisimov.

Agreed with Moore. I think he could be a top 4 D-man. Will be interesting to see who, if anyone, will be shown the door on D.

lol, I know it's a stretch to ask for Atkinson but Murray and Johansen is on a whole other level. Switch Dorsett with Atkinson and remove the pick, Rangers have to give up an extra, or a better piece than either Delisle or Partlett.
 
Two teams scratching and clawing for a playoff spot. They make a big trade, one makes it in and the other misses. Short term it was a good deal. Time will tell if it's a long term success. I feel good about it though.

Well, Gaborik is over the hill as a player. He was playing like crap, and if even one of those players we got back breaks out into a solid season next year the deal was a success.

I dont think i'd call him over the hill, he has just passed 30 (he is what, 31 or 32 now ?).

He did struggle especially this season, yes. But so did everyone else, so i dont see his slump as much a reflection on him as a reflection on the entire team.

As for the trade, its been very solid this far. Brassard is a very good center and a good playmaker, and Moore has been solid, and a good addition to an ailing defense corps :)

Dorsett i cant really say much about yet :)

I don't mean that he's done as a player. I just think that he has played the best hockey of his career in the past. The injury to the shoulder has taken alot out of him.

yeah, that has hurt him. He's still an offensive beast (watched the jackets tonight on stream), but not the sniper he once was. Should be noted that it wasn;t just the physical damage dealt to him, but the mental damage as well... Tearing your rotator cuff hurts (from what I know) a lot.. Would you want to continue playing for a coach that makes you jump in front of 80mph shots?

As a sniper, I wouldnt/

Considering that, in my mind, the die was cast that Gaborik was longer a goner this summer, the package the Rangers got back from Columbus was just about the best the Rangers could hope for when dealing Gaborik...top 6 forward, potential top 4 D-men, and a 3rd liner. Yes, they could have had a #1, but, they wanted Moore instead. Considering that the Ranger pick is likely to be around 20, and that's the pick that Columbus was offering, do you think you get a better player than Moore at that spot? Plus, Moore is contributing now. I'm not concerned about winning the deal. I just believe that the Rangers made a very good one.

My understanding is that Columbus was dangling the LA pick (#24 pre-playoff changes), not the Rangers pick (#19 pre-playoff changes). However, at the time of the trade the Rangers pick was in the early teens. Regardless, I much prefer Moore over LA pick + lesser prospect. If Moore can play like he has for NY so far, let alone continue developing, he is a superb piece moving forward.

Brassard should also greatly blunt the hole that's going to be created by the inevitable buyout of Richards next off season due to the CBA. Hopefully rather than needing to go out and find another top 6 center, Stepan can slot in on the first line with Brassard centering the second line.

If Dorsett can contribute as a hard-nosed third liner too, Rangers fans should have no complaints about this move, especially in light of the fact that we signed Gaborik as a UFA, he is one year away from being a UFA again, and either his effort (as a Ranger this year) was despicable or he is seriously on the decline.

Dorsett is good enough to be on the third line... I'd prefer moving Boyle to the fourth since he just ain't good enough in 5v5 and have him take important faceoffs and be on the PK.
 
for someone to say this trade is a short term move is absolutely silly..

we traded and got a 25yr old brassard who was taken 6th overall 6-7yrs ago.. who has all the skills and tools to be successful as a game changer..

john moore another 1st overal who has top 4 potential and is only 22yrs old

dorsett who columbus fans have been crying over that they lost bc he brought so much energy to their team..

this trade was to bring players in that can be short term help but long term solutions..
 
Don't get me wrong, I love Gabby but it is clear that he is not the same player he was. His shot is lacking the zip it once had and he no longer possesses that "holy ****" speed. He is still among the fastest in the league, but he seems to have lost a step and can't beat players with speed as frequently as in the past. I'm not saying he is done, but he has entered the twilight of his prime imo.

I hope he proves me wrong.
