Exactly. He is a DEFENSIVE Dman and does what he is suppose to. He plays solid defense most nights. It's crazy people get on him for not being able to help on offense, that's not his job.

Food for thought:

Why are we so accepting of having someone in the lineup we know can't score, or won't contribute to the offense versus so anti having someone in the lineup who can contribute offensively but isn't as good defensively?

Would we agree that our main issue this season has been the teams defensive play? (and goaltending from time to time I guess)..but not offense.

I'd rather have the guy who can play better defense and worse offense, than the guy playing worse defense and better offense. Our forwards have, for the most part, been very good for us this season scoring goals.

Now if we couldn't score goals, and lost games 2-1, 3-2 all the time, than I would rather have the offensive dman who played worse defense.

Fair enough.

you dont need to be the worlds best offensive defenseman if youre staal..you just cant be an effing black hole offensively...i mean...hes literally worthless in the offensive zone...ive never seen someone so slow with their decision making...puck goes on his stick..and the play just...dies.

And even that would not be a problem if he is a shutdown defenseman, but he isn't even that anymore. He's no better than Yandle defensively, which is a real issue for a guy who is supposed to be our best shutdown D-man. That's what he is paid to do.

It's not that easy. When a horrible turnover leads to a great scoring chance against, it's on glaring display how important puck skills are. Or if the puck is just dumped out in the neutral zone to the opposing team, where your own team barely has time to change even one player. Being able to get the puck out of the zone with quality is extremely important.

I rather have a defenseman that doesn't have to defend, than a defenseman that has to defend.

Because the ultimate goal is the #1wc seed. Allowing Marc and dan to play the minutes they do, and Clendo sitting.......well that assures us of not overacheiving. Laying low u know, probably the best way to go. Presidents trophy? What good did that do? Facing Wash. AND Pitt = elimination.

Marc Staal has been likely the worst player on the team this calendar year.

2nd last in relxGF% (Lindberg)

2nd last in relCF% (Vesey)

1 point, a secondary assist. 7 shots on goal

Pitiful.

Yet, for some reason, there are people blind to his suckage, and ignoring that he is a shell...:help:

Staal having absolutely zero lateral mobility prevents him from ever being able to open up a shooting lane. He is so rigid and slow in his decision making. This results in him having to perform his patented "intentionally shoot the puck wide" hoping for a bounce off the back boards. This has worked a total of zero times in the past 3 years. Doesn't stop him from attempting it however.

Staal should wire every penny he makes on his ****** contract to Anton Stralman for fooling this team into thinking he's a top 4 D.

Truly horrible from him tonight. My god.

I just remembered he's part of the reason we made the stupid Eric Staal trade last year too. Everything about his presence on the roster is awful.

Staal is becoming Girardi 2.0. Sad that these two players are making 11 million combined....

Except Staal was a good top 4 d-man for many years. Unfortunately, he isn't that anymore (at least on a consistent basis), especially with how the new NHL is coupled with his decline.

Right now I see our dmen in this order
1. McD
2. Brady
3. Clen/Holden
5. Klein/Dan/Staal

Staal hasn't been good since Stralman left.

Part of that is because of Stralman, part of that is because all of his skills have rapidly declined.

The Dolt behind the bench refuses to acknowledge this and has and will continue to cost this team games unless he smartens up.

I'd gladly give up the 2017 1st just to be rid of him.

I'm most disappointed with Klein this year. The club needed him to have a solid campaign in covering for Girardi and Staal--who are what they are at this point in their careers. Bad time for him to have down year.

he's been horrid without a doubt. Still one of my favorite Defensemen. I wish he never had the injuries he had the guy was a monster when you crossed our blue line. and his good ol' fashioned playoff matches against ovi and the caps were some of my favorites
