Staal can't shut down a traffic cone at this point.
How does one actually go about shutting down a traffic cone?

You live in Australia. Just leave it outside

Bottom pairing Dmen don't rip one timers like that. BOOM!
That goal had a lot to do with Staal's awareness that he could drift down from the point to almost the high slot to take that shot. Jones had a lot less time to react with all the chaos in front of him, and Staal was smart enough to recognize that.McIlrath can shoot the puck twice as hard as Staal.
that wasnt really even a bomb either, i think Jones just misplayed it.
He's played well lately.
Just give him a partner that can move the puck ffs. Not Nick Holden.
I don't know if it's that simple. He and Skjei have been absolute trash in their very limited time together. Could be an L+L thing.
Clendening? Seems obvious.
Have they? I remember them being strong against Calgary.
Was the Edmonton game that bad?
You know what bothers me more than anything about Marc Staal?
People can talk about his passing, his shooting, etc.
But the thing that bothers me the most is pretty simple...its this sequence of events that happens, literally, 15 times a game.
Staal receives the puck in his own zone, either through a takeaway, a turnover, or a pass.
Staal looks down to find puck
looks back up to find passing lanes
looks back down to make sure puck is there
looks back up to make sure passing lane is still there
passing lane is gone
decides to skate the puck up
looks down to find puck again
starts skating
dumps the puck in
team retrieves the puck
passes it to staal
staal receives pass
staal looks down to make sure hes got the puck
looks up to find passing lane
cant find a lane
looks back down to make sure puck is still there
looks up..oh look..still no passing lane...and now no shooting lane
staal dumps the puck up the boards
literally...happens so many times every game i feel like it's deja vu or something.
Marc Staal is frustrating because even when he plays well he sucks.
He's so limited. He has no value with the puck on his stick. Has absolutely no skating, escapability, or puck talent to speak of.

That's the most hilarious break down of a player I've ever seen. Pretty spot on too.You know what bothers me more than anything about Marc Staal?

I really have no issues with Staal so far this season, and actually think he's been better this year than last year (not a high bar).
He barely moves the bar on relSA% and his relGF% should lower if it falls in line with his relxGF% which is slightly lower (-3.54% and -2% respectively).
Since 11/1, when this team started sucking, Staal is one of three d-men with a positive relative SA%. The other two are Holden and Klein (believe it or not). Girardi is dragging McDonagh down to such horrid levels that we've never even seen before. Same timeframe, McD is a -1.96 relSA% player and Girardi is -7.60%
Now, it should be pointed out that Staal's positive relSA% in November, he's still a -46 in raw differential.
This team has been bad
In fact, the Rangers have zero positive shot attempt differential players in the month of November. The highest player? 0.
It's Clendening and his 16.5 mins of ice time.
