Marc Staal Update ("Feeling really good, no limitations")

Jim Cerny spoke to Staal

Staal, who has called this “one of the more normal summers recently†since he is feeling completely healthy and not dealing with concussion symptoms or a broken foot like the past two off-seasons, is training diligently every day to prepare for his first camp under the team’s new head coach Alain Vigneault. He was back on the ice and skating two weeks ago, already.

Marc also likes the addition of Samuelsson. They worked together in the AHL in 2006.

Isn't it obvious? It was a phone interview, thus, allowing us to deduce that Marc clearly couldn't find his way to the location of Jim Cerny because he is blind in both eyes and his groin is concussed. It's elementary

Have we discussed whether or not Timonen tried to shoot the puck off of Voracek and into Staal's eye yet?

Because I would only find that slightly more ridiculous than the Talbot conversation.
 
So Staal becomes the first nerd on skates for the NYR's with black frame,thick glasses and trainers white adhesive tape to protect that nose.
 
Well, Team Canada felt he's worthy an invitation, and he's been skating - no eye mention.

I'm guessing he feels ready to play, but won't say he's 100% on the eye. Maybe it's healing great and he doesn't want to curse it; maybe it's as good as it'll be and he doesn't think it's a problem; maybe he just wants to stop talking about it. I think he makes a strong comeback and is over this.
 
“It was a tough injury, a scary injury,†reflected Staal in July at the Freedom 55 Financial Hockey Celebrity Golf Classic a little more than four months after the incident. “It could have been a lot worse with the trauma that did happen. Right now, I’m just adapting to it and every day it feels like it is getting better and becoming more natural.

The immediate aftermath scared the Rangers alternate captain, as he had no vision in the eye and had concerns that it might end his career. He credited the team’s medical staff for supporting him through the process and putting him on the beginning of the path towards rehabilitation.

He insists that he will be ready to go for the start of the upcoming NHL campaign.

“The eye was causing problems after that game and didn’t feel all that comfortable while I was on the ice,†he said. “I thought it was best to not continue, and I have a lot more time through the summer to get prepared and ready to go. I don’t see any problems once the season starts.â€

It sounds like Staal is very appreciative of the Rangers medical staff for helping him through a very bad time in his career. Think he wants to leave?

It doesn't hurt. Its gone the other way like with Cody Hodgson and the Canucks. He was the golden boy. The team doctors misdiagnosed a back injury which soured the relationship. The player said he wasn't feeling well and the Canucks thought it was an excuse. Lindros and the Flyers.
 
Believe Brent Burns had a similar situation with the medical staff in Minnesota where they misdiagnosed his concussions and it was brought up as a point of contention during his contract negotiations. Ultimately led to him being traded.
 
Not sure if this has been posted before, as the article is dated today, but Slats' take on Staal:

During an interview with an Edmonton radio station, Glen Sather was asked about Marc Staal and Sather responded by saying that right now, Marc Staal is 100%.

Sather added that he is fully recovered and that he expects Staal to return to top form this season.

He also said that Staal is the kind of player who will make Team Canada better at the Olympics.

Staal has said that he doesn’t think he will have a problem when the season starts. He has said before that he is completely healthy.
