Staal within 2 seasons and needs 151 games played as NYR to get 1000 as a NYR, maybe that is why they won't scratch him :sarcasm::huh::help:

like I said Marc Staal can take a dump on Quinn's breakfast and will still play that night. that is the sad truth about Staal :thumbd::huh::help:

Aside from inserting Lindgren, what are your suggestions for replacing Staal? And remember, until very recently management was not convinced that Lindgren should be taking those minutes at this time (and they still may not be).

I am sure anyone is better than Staal at this point. when Staal did not play in preseason, Rangers looked so much quicker on the back end. it is a shame that the coaching staff thinks he is still an NHL player

That is not an answer or a solution. What is your alternative to Staal?

And it has been explained multiple upon multiple times why he is still in the lineup. It is for the same reason that you cannot come up with a Plan B. The view was and still may well be that Lindgren is either not ready or not ready to assume the minutes. Smith is not getting moved from his spot where he has actually done very well. And money is not being spent on a waiver level player who has not found a team to all home at this point in the season. So again, what are your solutions?

Honestly how much worse could Lindgren be? They called him up to play I assume.

Staal could use a "rest" as could Skjei but we have all watched the games and know that.

It is not "how much worse can he be?". I think it is more of "is he ready to take on the minutes or is his long term development better done by playing big minutes in Hartford?". So it is not a question of can he be any worse than Staal or better than him. It is how is the franchise better served long term? I think that the answer is they seem to value long term over what happens in a year in which the team is lottery bound.

this argument is so flawed.

goes like this, player A is bad. real bad. but player B is young. real young.

player B cannot be better than player A because he is too young.

invalid.

this coach and or management will not scratch staal ever. pretty much everyone else can be. brady. hajek. tony d. smith. last year shatty.

staal never.

you want answer to your question ? who can replace staal for a few games ? here's a few

1. brendan smith can play. he cannot be worse than staal. not possible. hes actually been decent this year killing penalties. hes paid well. hes been more than ok. he ADDS something we need with some saltiness and grind. hes physical and hes a vocal player on the bench. i like his game this year. as a 3rd pair guy, and staal sitting, he an instant upgrade to this defense.

2. lets see how lindgren reacts to 3rd pair minutes. hes another gritty type kid who adds what we lack. hes young. yes. hes inexperienced. yes. can he be worse than marc staal. im thinking no. what do we have to lose sitting staal and adding young legs ? i mean we are terrible with staal.

why is it marc staal must play every game ?

marc staal is literally the 124/124 rated dman per corsi. let that sink in. LAST

time to give staal a seat and let him know that the eye test and the ,metrics all agree. hes toast.

these kids like hajek and fox and lindgren are ready to play. they arent ready to play top 4 22 mins per night or PP1 minutes or shutdown matchup minutes. we get that.

but 3rd pair sheltered mins or PK2 mins ? sure why not.

its marc f***ing staal !!!!

no one is going to be ruined if staal sits. no ones career is over or untracked. its called a cup of coffee or next man up or taking advantage of an opportunity. long term development ? its 5 games ?

why so protective when this team sucks ?? why must staal play every game

i still think the d should be

hajek/jake
skjei/ADA
smith/fox

thats what i would roll with

Staal needs to be the #7. The logic that he makes too much to sit doesn’t hold water when him sitting is a net positive. If he doesn’t want to walk away from the money that’s on the table, he can earn it from the press box and be a mentor at practice. He shouldn’t be playing. They should find a way to LTIR him and say that his vision has deteriorated or something.

I still shcoked he was scratched but i don't expect him to miss the next game. I imagine Brady sits. I hope to god i am wrong.

Staal should never see the ice again unless someone is injured. He offers absolutely no value at any part of the ice and I'd much rather a player like Lindgren show what he could do over Staal's rotting corpse.

Even if we got blown out last night I would maintain this stance.

I doubt Quinn has it in him to sit him again.

And for as much as we all bemoan his play in recent years, it’s absolutely his right to earn the remaining millions on his contract. It’s not like G (or damn near anyone else outside of Naslund) walked away while he still had years & $$$ remaining. The correct play IMHO is to make him the 7th for the remainder of the season and then buy out his last year.

Yeah I think Staal is gonna be riding some pine....feelsgoodman.

He can get back in the lineup here and there if/when one of the youngins need a maintenance game.
