Another clip of goal and family celebration. Always nice to see

I made a point of trying to watch him each shift which isn`t always easy as the camera isn`t zoned in on those not carrying the puck. I watch him and I see a kid who doesn`t look to have blazing speed, isn`t going to dangle his way to the net but he quietly did things the right way tonight. 3 separate shifts the puck came to him along the wall and he made the simple yet right play to ensure he got that puck out of the zone then on his goal to identify that quickly that transition is taking place, immediately move to the left of Freddy rather than skate behind him or slow down a touch as he entered the O zone was so refreshing to see and that shot....good lord what a shot

Nice effort from the kid and had he not scored, I was pretty encouraged to have watched a kid look engaged, not overwhelmed by the moment, the goal was beautiful icing on the cake

Having watched McLaughlin for 4 years, this was my take in the Free Agent thread about him a couple weeks ago:

Nothing flashy about his game. Solid skater/strength but not an overly physical player. Two year captain who played in all situations. His best attribute was scoring big goals. Many of his goals would be deemed big ones including OT and other GWGs. Really developed his game in getting into the right places on the ice to score goals. He's not gonna beat you individually but he knows where to be and buries his chances. If I am projecting I would view him as a 4th line guy who could potentially fill a 3rd line role. Depends on what you want in a player. He's not gonna be dishing out hits left and right but he's not timid either. He can hold his own on the puck.

How'd I do one game in? :D

Pretty good! Didn't see any GWG from him though ;)

Close, but that goal was as flashy as they come.

I'm not putting him in the Bruins HOF after one game but you can see he has a pro game style to him.

Looks like he can play up and down the line-up. His backchecking was superb for one game

I guess by flashy I meant he's not gonna blow by a defender and then deke the goalie or he's not gonna deke a dman and get then all out of sorts. So while the goal last night might be deemed flashy, for him...that's what he's good at. Getting into position and burying the puck.

Sounds Landeskog like ..... less dipsy doodle...and more bury chances

The Bruins need to hire you. That's how you did one game in. :)

I can't say I was watching every minute of the game, especially after the score got to 6 or 7, but I liked his early shifts. Seems tenacious. Also looked like he has a good nose for positioning; even on plays where nothing happened, he got himself to the place where he should be. Certainly did that on his goal!

I don't see him staying on the 3rd line once Smith is ready, and I don't know who he replaces on the 4th line when Blidh is having a hard time getting in the lineup. Is he a better option than Blidh? I'm not sure. Maybe a better 3rd line option than Blidh, but not a better 4th line option? Is he a bit of a Kuraly corollary?

Anyway, looking forward to see how this kid develops.

Not fair to pencil in a guy anywhere after 1 game, but I will take that type of game from the 3rw spot any night!

What's his NHL upside? Middle 6 ceiling? 4th line floor?

I think he has a higher floor

4th guys are Blidh, Lazar type... crash and burn

Mclaughlin showed better hands. And that goal....

For now.. I'm putting him in my Frank Vatrano catergory. 3rd liner that can score goals

God bless Craig Smith... but once his contract ends next season. MM is a natural replacement. Coyle and Freddy are still young... with MM... could be a nice line for years to come (my jump the gun take)

Lazar who is a UFA will be due for a raise

Bruins usually let there 4th liners go once they get to UFA

So I expect McLaughlin to be full time 4RW next year

For me not sure... Lazar is an absolute beast. I think he leads the Bruins in hits...he just hits everything. Forchecks tough.... just a pain

If Lazar is willing to accept a low pay increase. I would still keep him around...

Instead shop/buyout Foligno. I wouldnt mind a Nosek Lazar MM 4th line. With Blidh as the extra. And versatility to move MM up the lineup to fill in for injury etc.

I’d love to keep Lazar too

But right now he makes 800k id guess his salary will double this off-season

With money tight need to save anywhere we can

Also it’s a contract season I don’t expect this level of play to keep up from Lazar if he gets a multi year deal

RocketDan and premature roster takes. Name a better duo.

Great moment for the kid.

It's just one game, but his game looks NHL ready. He'll be nice depth coming off the bench in the playoffs if/when injuries come or a shakeup is needed.

Is he normally a center? I'm thinking a Blidh -- Mac -- Lazar is something I wouldn't mind seeing them experiment with down the road to see how it works. I think Nosek is adequate as a 4th line center but these guys are a dime a dozen, plug in and out types.

I think Nosek is fine... as long as there isnt another slow guy on the line

Nosek is 6'2. Good details. 2nd effort. Good at FOs. There is value

Nosek sturdiness helps the 4th line. Add Lazar and Mclaughlin. With Blidh as the extra

This is where I'm at

He was primarily a center at BC last two years. Towards the end of this year he jumped up to be McBain's winger. So he does have versatility.
