San Jose, has never won a Cup. No, participation trophies are not part of hockey at the NHL level.
They can make their own trophies - fair enough.Tell that to the Nashville Predators who like to hang theirs in the rafters.
The whole reason Tavares went to Toronto was to live a childhood dream...Sure, but it is not embarrassing to relinquish the captaincy. The last player to do that before Tavares was Milan Hejduk- he did so in favor of Landeskog.
- just getting tavares out of that role which wasnt working for him is a good move because at minimum the less pressure on him could improve his game
- and nobody knows how cheif in mathews corner will work out , cheif might be able to push the right buttons . thats what good coachs can do . this is a proper attempt imo
Yup, Tavares did that however, they view his leadership skills high enough to have him "heavily involved in the process" when transferring his captaincy to Mathews. The whole reason Tavares went to Toronto was to live a childhood dream...
Since joining, his team has only won ONE playoff series. Meanwhile his old team has won just as many playoff series IN Toronto as he won in his entire career
That is why it is funny. The team he grew up rooting for views him as a lousy leader
So why were NYI fans so butthurt about pajama boy? He did them a favour.
Is this a diss to Tavares or Long Island?Make ya think... he'd rather be a loser on toronto than an "immortal" on garbage long island
Covering all basesIs this a diss to Tavares or Long Island?
Toronto sucked with JT, they've been complete dogwater despite getting a free 1C in 2018What's the difference? Both teams suck.
He has slowed down recently. He will like change his role and transition from a 2C to a 3 C or perhaps on the wing for his last year, and go from there and see if he wants to continue with Toronto, somewhere else or retirement ( the least likely option)It is a shame to seeing Tavares toiling away in Toronto.
So you must surely concur that taking the C away is a good decision then? You want him back? The whole reason Tavares went to Toronto was to live a childhood dream...

Always thought Reilly was the guy at the time Tavares got it.
More passion and vocal
Why do people talk about Matthews like he was trash? Dude was a top 3 player for years now and was injured this playoff but playing amazing to start and was amazing last playoff against Tampa. Even the stats cherry picked to look bad in this thread was 7 points in his hast 10 playoff games lol. Underwhelming but people talk like he produces 0 points..
Oh 100% this is a good decision by Toronto he is not captain materialSo you must surely concur that taking the C away is a good decision then? You want him back?
Debatable if ever a top 3 player and 7 points in 10 games prorates to under 60 point season. He scores his points and many hattricks against lesser teams not the playoff competition.
Certainly not trash but closer to top 10 player than top 5 or 3.
We are not bragging we are bringing up the fact that the islanders have won just as many playoff series IN TORONTO as Tavares has won through his ENTIRE CAREERKinda funny we have a fan making fun of the Sharks "participation trophy" for making the cup finals at the same time Islanders fans are bragging about winning a couple rounds
