Tavares has been “heavily involved in the process with Treliving.” What does this mean? I thought “the process” was just stitching a C onto the jersey.
The C doesn’t stand for ‘Captain” it stands for “Casper”
Don't think that bad joke is really flying over anyone's head.Best joke in the thread. Flying right over heads too.
I think all teams recognize a captain that is what the letter C is for.Powerful statement by the Leafs. When they shuffle deck chairs, they let you know which chair is going where.
It is embarrassing to be stripped of the captaincy period. Add in the fact he posted "Not everyday you get to live a childhood dream" less than 30 minutes after signing in Toronto and you will see why it is funnyWhy is it embarrassing?
And signs a hefty contract with the Islanders.......right?The only thing that could possibly be sweeter is if Captain Matthews up and leaves after his contract expires in a few years
God this is amazing. Tavares would have been immortalized on Long Island. Now he has the legacy of the guy that went home, couldn’t lead the dream team to success in the playoffs or a cup, and to top it off he embarrassingly gets the “C” taken away.
I mean AM is the most chill dude and while that isn't a bad thing he doesn't scream captain and he definitely doesn't lead by example come games that matter. The teams best player doesn't always make the best captain. Hell Tanev would be the better choice and why now? I'm not one of those shit on the leafs type of guy but this to me screams deflecting from the fact that despite all the talk of major change, the team is once again top heavy with the same core that has failed year after year to get it done.Awesome, it's about time. JT is a great guy and all but he just doesn't have that influence and it was especially on display in the playoffs, need a guy the troops can rally around. Hopefully they'll make it more of a succession, rather than stripping JT, that would be awkward af.
Love the decision though.
They made the finals the following season.....
Make ya think... he'd rather be a loser on toronto than an "immortal" on garbage long islandGod this is amazing. Tavares would have been immortalized on Long Island. Now he has the legacy of the guy that went home, couldn’t lead the dream team to success in the playoffs or a cup, and to top it off he embarrassingly gets the “C” taken away.
Sure, but it is not embarrassing to relinquish the captaincy. The last player to do that before Tavares was Milan Hejduk- he did so in favor of Landeskog. It is embarrassing to be stripped of the captaincy period. Add in the fact he posted "Not everyday you get to live a childhood dream" less than 30 minutes after signing in Toronto and you will see why it is funny
So why were NYI fans so butthurt about pajama boy? He did them a favour. You forgot to mention how his former team has won just as many playoff series IN TORONTO as he has won in his ENTIRE CAREER
Most overrated player in NHL history and it really isn't close
I'm sorry but you Leafs fans spent all of the 2018 offseason teasing islander fans, and saying we shouldn't be mad our captain bailed on us after saying for an entire year how he never wanted to play anywhere but Long Island
Yeah, he could have won more than one playoff series over the past 6 yearsJust imagine all the success he could have had on the Islanders!
And something about pajamas (even though it was a blanket)
San Jose, has never won a Cup. No, participation trophies are not part of hockey at the NHL level. How many cups? Or is participation trophies still a thing?
Ay man all hockey fans are allowed to have their opinion on this move including islander fansSo why were NYI fans so butthurt about pajama boy? He did them a favour.
Yes, the Islanders had a couple of runs to the Conference Finals.I'm sorry but you Leafs fans spent all of the 2018 offseason teasing islander fans, and saying we shouldn't be mad our captain bailed on us after saying for an entire year how he never wanted to play anywhere but Long Island
Also here is a reminder that the Islanders have won just as many playoff series in Toronto as Tavares has won through his ENTIRE CAREER
This.I don't know what makes Matthews a better choice for captain than Tavares, but I do know Tavares was the captain for virtually every team he played on except for some senior international teams.
Rielly should have been named captain before though so whatever.
Yeah, that would have been nice, but unfortunately it didn't happen.Yeah, he could have won more than one playoff series over the past 6 years
What's the difference? Both teams suck.Yeah, he could have won more than one playoff series over the past 6 years
