This move needed to happen! Matthews is a leader, and will continue to grow.
Yeah he’ll probably grow. Won’t be hair, but something.

He should start his captaincy tenure with a team dress code that includes the latest in purses, earrings, and dumb looking hats.
No it’s great because those losers keep losing. Hilarious stuffYou must have a miserable life.

Tavares has been “heavily involved in the process with Treliving.” What does this mean? I thought “the process” was just stitching a C onto the jersey.
Let me find my smallest violinGod this is amazing. Tavares would have been immortalized on Long Island. Now he has the legacy of the guy that went home, couldn’t lead the dream team to success in the playoffs or a cup, and to top it off he embarrassingly gets the “C” taken away.
Why is it embarrassing?God this is amazing. Tavares would have been immortalized on Long Island. Now he has the legacy of the guy that went home, couldn’t lead the dream team to success in the playoffs or a cup, and to top it off he embarrassingly gets the “C” taken away.
Not really, Tavares is a solid player. It is team success that has eluded the team. This pretty much sums up the John Tavares era in Toronto - utter disaster
When's the last time an active player on a team was stripped of the captaincy?

To be stripped of the captaincy is completely embarrassing. Especially when it’s been your childhood and life long dream to play for and lead that team. Doesn’t take away from him as a player but definitely is an indictment on his leadership. Why is it embarrassing?
It doesn't appear that he has been stripped of anything. In the OP it states thatTo be stripped of the captaincy is completely embarrassing. If they had confidence in him as captain and a leader then there is no reason to change. If on the other hand the pressure was too much and he requested to have it taken then that speaks volumes as well. Either way it isn’t a good look for Tavares personally.
Respect to the leafs though for doing it.
If Tavares didn’t give it up voluntarily it’s strippedIt doesn't appear that he has been stripped of anything. In the OP it states that
"This is part of the evolution of Matthews as a leader and current Maple Leafs captain John Tavares fully supports the change. Tavares has been heavily involved in the process with GM Brad Treliving."
Marleau I think. Milan Hejduk was the last to transfer the captaincy to a teammate until Tavares officially does it though. When's the last time an active player on a team was stripped of the captaincy?
