The thing I like most about Roy is that he's good at fostering youth.

All that experience coaching in the Q gave him a keen insight. The Leafs need someone who won't be afraid to let the kids play. Berube's reliance on vets and reluctance to play the rookies stunted Cowan's development last year.

Now that McKenna is gonna be on the team I wouldn't mind seeing Roy as coach of the Leafs.
I’m hoping our new management has that philosophy with the kids. Stop trading youth for 32-33 year old guys because you can’t wait a year. Then you spend the next 10 years looking for a kid you moved.

I wonder if we have a hiring by mid time next week.

Ideally canes win tonight. Get 2 days to party and celebrate with no moved then by tuesday or wednesday the NHL and Leafs more importantly get busy

The point being they will not win with that style. We don’t have the roster for it.

Plus why does anyone want a guy who we are his second choice. He’s been clear he wanted to go to Edmonton. So that’s not a guy I wanna bring in. I want a guy who gives a f*** about the Maple Leafs and will live and breathe leading this group. That’s not Cassidy

me either.

i might agree with your cup thing (but you know i still love ya Francis :D )but wanting to work here on conditions and crap. no, niyet, nuh nuh, flag on the play.

we should not have to settle for being people's second choices. we should be the first choice.

I hope the delay is because they are waiting to seek permission to speak with Cassidy. It would be foolish to not try to interview him at the very least at this point. He already stated publicly that he's interested in the position in Toronto.

See he was wrongly accused by whiney rich kid rookies all along. We fired a great coach.
It wasn’t Babs fault. It was the one armed man in Columbus.

I think hiring Pavelski is literally saying “come learn on the job”

It is one thing being elevated to being a coach after being an assistant coach first.
Entirely another thing coming in completely green.

Using Woodcroft as an example. He ran a couple preseason camps with the Oilers. They had a horrible start his last season as a head coach there leading to his firing.

I am positive he learned something from that bad start that he will use in his next HC role.

Joe Pavelski is not the right choice for a team that wants to pretend they are going to contend.

Literally just these guys trying to show how smart they are by being outside the box.
I definitely agree a guy with with no pro coaching experience (may have coached a peewee team since retiring) is risky. We know all about the adventures of on the job learning. The other side of it is 1500 NHL games and playing under a battery of experienced head coaches. It isn't like he won't have been involved in the same situations as any experienced NHL coach and seen what works and what doesn't.

I do wonder about the one on one relationship between coaches and players having issues because it doesn't seem like Joe was ever the problematic guy. Will his experience as a captain be enough to rely on there? And also with his history of coaches is he going to be a collection of everything he has seen that works, or is he maybe going to be a reflection of one of the guys who he enjoyed playing for like maybe DeBoer or Bowness that took him to the SC Finals? Half his career was under McLellan so what if he is Todd lite?

IMO he is clearly not a safe choice for a club that really needs a big year because we don't know which if his former coaches he will be channelling and they are really the source of all his knowledge. I think he had to say all the best things in the interview that the experienced coaches were saying or he would weed himself out. Contacting everybody and their dog about the position was the outside of the box thing but hiring doesn't have to be. I still don't expect him to be the guy but if he is, it would be because he said the things that made Chayka and his team confidant they aren't sticking their necks out.

Cassidy is just more of the same of Berube

don’t say I didn’t warn you. Same people who hated how we played under Berube, want a guy who runs a system that’s yes possession but boring as heck and doesn’t really generate a ton of offense?
Marchand and Pasta had great offensive years under Cassidy. Bergeron's career best year was under BC. Not at all the same as a team built on ROR and Brayden Schenn. If it works it will be because of how he forces the bottom 6 intoi a system that takes some pressure off the D.

This guy doesn't know his stuff. He is just talking trash. Real Leafs fans know Cassidy is already hired and waiting at home in bed with his Leafs jammies on.

Imagine that ... Vegas tampers with Mitch less than a year ago and now we tamper with Cassidy... full circle.

What if the Knights lose the series, Leaf's hire Cassidy and then we win the cup next season .... it would be one of the most unlikely sports stories ever.
