There is no satisfaction either way. Several coaches have quit by early August. Roy, Trots, Babcock ect. It's just that you said that he quits on teams like it is his habit or something. Hence, why I asked for others.
Babcock was forced to walk the plank, he didn't want to walk and not even Torts was as egregious as Roy in Colorado.
At least Torts walked late in the season after the team quit on him Roy walked out on his team right before the team started the regular season and blew up that year and Roy has had two NHL jobs so he's ****** his organization 50% of the time

Well he quit early August

Colorado, he walked out on them just before the season started

Curious if one thinks
A coach quitting a team is worse than the team firing the coach?

In both cases the coach is without a job and the team is without a coach.

If it's okay for a team to fire a coach, it should be okay if the coach fires the team.

...

So announcement after the final?

Teams quit on coaches, shouldn't happen but it does but a coach quitting on a team right before the season starts? That's unusual

If they are going to quit the team, they should do it no later than mid-August, not right before the season starts.

The only reason a coach would ever quit on the team is because he is being interfered with by managers. It would have to be to the extent that he feels it's ruining his career and future job prospects.

Pro coaches are professionals. I would never believe such a claim unless it came from the coaches own mouth.

He coaches the players he's given, I've seen coaches quit because of health reasons or the teams quit on them but I've never seen a coach quit right before a season starts like that, in fact I can't ever remember it happening in any sport pro or amateur

Yeah for sure, in early August Roy said that he wanted more influence in player personal decisions he was after all vice president of hockey ops as well as coach. Luckily they had Jared Bednar there who stepped in as coach the season was to start in a couple of months.

Cassidy is just more of the same of Berube

don’t say I didn’t warn you. Same people who hated how we played under Berube, want a guy who runs a system that’s yes possession but boring as heck and doesn’t really generate a ton of offense?

My assumption is that management is competent and will actually build a compatible team. If they aren't we will once again complaining about how botched it anyways. It all depends on what type of team they want to build, problem has always been...

The Toronto Maple Leafs - We're still finding ourselves.

They will get an identity someday Francis. I have faith that, ok, before 2150 the Leafs will have won a cup.

Luckily 2027 is before 2150!

To be honest, I'm a bit worried about Cassidy if he's the guy. Listen to Doug McLean talk about the Vegas locker room in this clip. Go to 15:25.

He called the lockerroom extremely toxic and "horrific". Not saying it was all Cassidy, but things did change pretty quickly with Torts.

Also interesting that Marner was actually in a toxic situation throughout the year. Grass not always greener.......

Yes and Cassidy did the same in Boston and then as soon as Jim Montgomery got to Boston shit was better, though they shit the bed in the playoffs with Jim lol

Absolutely no to Cassidy! He's not the right coach for this team.

I'm leaning towards the following in order:

1. John Gruden
2. Joe Pavelski
3. Patrick Roy

I think John Gruden should get serious consideration with the success he's had this year with the AHL. His familiarity with the Marlies and who can help with the Maple Leafs is also a plus. He's been tutored under the likes of Montgomery and Trotz in the past.

He seems to be the right balance of Xs and Os and mentorship based. I also love the fact that we will promote from within but with merit.

Unfortunately, I don't think Gruden has been interviewed or even contacted about the position (or he's just being coy to keep the press away right now):

Now maybe that's because they want him to focus on the Marlies, but if the Leafs intend to make a decision this week then it suggests he's not being considered.

Above reports next week.

David Pagnotta: It sounds like some time next week the Maple Leafs...want to be in a position to name a head coach - DFO Rundown (6/11)

Not saying one way or the other, but if Gruden is a candidate they might want to wait until it's over before announcing. As far as interviewing? Maybe they don't need to if they already know from day-to-day operations / interactions?

Would he be interested in a position under someone like XXX?

If the hire somehow ends up being Dallas Eakins, that will already turn me against Chayka. IMO Eakins is so bad that I would have preferred keeping Berube. Dead serious.

Eakins should stay in the German league where he belongs. There are literally 0 positive spins to make about him. Even Patrick Roy at least has the big impact he apparently had on rookie Schaefer.

Who gives a f**k? You know what's exciting? Winning. Winning is exciting. Personally I don't give a rat's ass what style they play, so long as they win.

How the hell does McLean know? Were people calling him out in PEI with updates? As soon as he said "I know for a fact" he lost me because any time someone says that, they don't actually know jack s**t.

And even if there were issues, Cassidy is capable of learning from them and changing things.

If they hire Eakins (or Pavelski) I will tune out until the search for the next coach.
