Rod is a leader amongst leaders. Has the respect but also challenges his guys and gives them confidence to go out and do it. What a coach/person.

Leafs have to find that person
Also, when the going got tough (getting bodied every year in ECF because they just lost to better teams), they kept trying, tweaking the team and strategy, and continued buying into the culture until it finally paid off. Nobody ever came above the crest, and the guys that wanted to jump ship did, while the core guys stuck around and finally saw it through without crying about it or complaining about unfair treatment or whatever bullshit.

They let the scars fuel them to bigger heights, instead of willowing away in them.

so my internet has been gone most of the last month, is there a roumored favourite to be our coach yet or what?

I kind of expected this to be done by now

The definition of insanity? Rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic?

Canes weren't a Titanic. They got the best they could out of those teams every year getting to the final four, although they've had good teams they're not exactly riddled with HOFers or elite talent. Even this year's group, Aho/Stankoven/Staal/Janko down the middle is very solid but not anything earth-shattering, Aho is the only PPG forward on the roster. On defense Slavin is an absolute stud but the other 5 guys range from decent/average to good. One franchise D and a bunch of other #3/4s basically. Also average goalies, Fred and Bussi are not elite by any means. Jackson Blake led the team in playoff points lol.

Speaks to how well coached they are and the culture they've created.

Ehlers signing and a couple young players stepped up with a couple old goats (Hall and Staal) having great playoffs.

How many times would Rod have been fired in Toronto?

Definitely, they have been building a team identity/culture and program for years there. Almost a college like system, with the Coach being the face of the team and not the players.

Maybe thats the thought with Pavelski instead of the old guys who have a short shelf life? Someone who is young, was an excellent player, eccellent w way player, similarly respected around the league as Rod was. Only thing is Rod spent 5 years as a NHL assistant coach, while Pavelski has 0 years.

Carolina is a well oiled team. I watched a video with Rod coaching at training camp and he acts like an inspiration career coach. Tons of positive energy.

As been already said above. Doubtful any one get the time and chances to really build a program and set a culture in Toronto the way it has been done in Carolina.
Should really be what happen but I doubt it.

Are we comparing Rod/Carolina's 9 playoff series wins and three conference finals appearances in 9 seasons (excludes this season, where they've add four playoff series wins and a Cup win) against the Leafs two playoff series wins and zero conference finals appearances in their 9 year playoff run?

I don't think a quick trigger finger on coach firings has been an issue in Toronto. Unlike Carolina, we've essentially had zero playoff success, and in Babcock/Berube's case at least, coaches that had clearly lost the dressing room (which has never been suggested as occuring in Carolina).

I do find it funny that a bunch of media members were saying Chayka would have a tough time recruiting because he sewered his reputation in Arizona, yet it seems like a lot of coaches want this Toronto job.

I don't know about Cassidy, I do want a coach that focuses on: skating, puck control and offense. Anybody watching the playoffs could see that's what you need. No more, dump and chase 90s bullshit.
