It was the October 27, 2011 5-3 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes, who played at the Jobing.com Arena apparently . (Edit: Nope, Hockey Reference amusingly calls their Arena that every year even though that only lasted from 2006-14. This is more than I ever wanted to know about this, but I’m surprised Jobing.com lasted that long.)

Nice callback! I’m impressed you remembered that!
Thank you so much for finding this, I was looking all over the place for it. I’m just glad I’m not crazy! Haha

LOL why the f*** would anyone be throwing beers at the Leaf players? The palpable anger was obviously toward the refs for three disallowed goals, guess they have a lot of practice playing the victim hood card though.
especially when it seems that after the first we dominated the leafs and had to battle the refs more the rest of the game....

I'm sure there are no stats kept on disallowed goals, but has a team ever head three in a row taken back, particularly the first three?
Not that I can remember. Didn’t we have 2 goals taken off the board at home against Calgary too?

We’ve absolutely had the most disallowed goals in the league this year by an enormous margin. I don’t think any have been disallowed in our favor us either.

I'm still dumbfounded by this game, never seen anything like it.

Agreed with Steve: the league really, really needs to get a grip on some of its rules. Goals taken off the board because of a skate being an inch offsides or otherwise not impacting the play, the various examples of "goalie interference" we saw yesterday against the Devils and Canucks, the lack of clarity on kicks, none of it helps the product.

Throwing shit on the ice is caveman shit, and the team being hot and the night before Thanksgiving meant that the bandwagoners and amateur hour drinkers were out in force, but I can't fault anyone for being furious after spending good money to see one of the biggest games the team has played in literally years. I ended up storming out after the third waved-off goal and getting a drink across the street because I was getting irrationally angry (and my superstition was saying maybe if I left things would change) and didn't want to sit through the debris storm, but yeah, that was the most insane game I've ever been at.

Imagine if it was a playoff game, especially game 7 or in the finals.

I would rather have 10 iffy goals count against us than have one taken back. The league is playing with fire by going back and ticky-tack legislating every goal. It makes it feel like nothing really counts until "Toronto" says it does, regardless of how it actually happened.

That was wild, never seen anything like it. I was at the Calgary game where we had the two goals taken back and couldn't believe it. Can't even imagine being there for three and seeing that crowd live.

I hate that shit was thrown on the ice in case someone could have gotten hurt. The problem is that it opens up idiots trying to reach it from anywhere and everywhere and if a schmuck up top thinks he can make it and short arms it, you have someone in the lower level who is going to get nailed with god knows what. It's a terrible look. I understand being fed up, I was from my couch. But that just doesn't do anyone any good.

As for the game, for me, I feel the first two goals taken back should really be allowed in theory. I get the logic behind the first one given Nate was in the crease but he didn't impede the play at all. I think if that was ruled a goal on the ice, it would have stood.

The second one was not only a flop by Murray, but by the rule, it should be allowed if it was deemed incidental contact. The fact the explanation supposedly said the refs deemed it more than incidental contact, but didn't call a penalty? Talk about making shit up on the fly. And to think that we got boned by that rule a year or two ago when the Avs took out Mac behind the net and scored and it counted! This league truly makes no sense a lot of the time.

First waved off goal should've counted
I've said this ad nauseum.

Of all the goals taken away, THIS was the most egregious.

We should've been heading for OT (if things proceeded the same way) at the very least.

I know there's an expression regarding how a team has the refs in their backpocket....but I think this is ACTUALLY THE CASE here.

A referee who is from Toronto should NEVER officiate a game involving his Home team because of obvious CONFLICT OF INTEREST.

If the league called everything “by the book” those calls wouldn’t be a problem.

Like others have said they keep everyone in the dark and thats purposeful. I heard an interview on NHL radio with a retired ref that like how things are vague, and don’t mind the imperfections.

There were also rumors they hated how transparent Brenden Shanny was during his time in Player Safety.

They old hats find this to be a plucky part of the game, you know “tradition”.

That first goal was the one Chico was the most annoyed about and I've always found him to be very fair even though he loves his Devils. His explanation was that the contact had no affect on the outcome of the play and that the contact didn't even push Murray in the opposite direction so it should have counted.

I haven’t read the thread beyond some of last night but the fans throwing beer and drinks on the ice in protest of the 3 no goals is disgusting. I love people being fired up and excited for the win streak but acting like this is Philly makes me want to vomit. And yes, getting filled beer cans thrown near your head would be cause for concern. Have some class and don’t become those entitled fans that we normally rip on. There is NO defending those actions or blaming other teams players for not liking it good/bad calls or not.

Hate to break it to ya but you ain't that important lol but seriously should have stuck around, the place exploded when Dougie got a goal that counted and the last few minutes with them trying to tie it was wild and fun.
Posted this just after the game but the was the most fun loss I've ever been at.

If that was a playoff game then my opinion would be different.

It did end the streak, but as someone noted last night, the symmetry in tying the team record set by our best team is kind of cool.

Saw this shared on the main board somewhere (can’t remember the source, thanks whoever you are!). How this counted in recent years but not Tatar’s goal is such a freakin’ mystery to me lol.

Well, maybe they reviewed that afterwards and said, "goal like this should not count"? I kind of remember watching that live, and I'm sure my thought was "bull poop". So I can see why from a Leafs perspective they would want that goal disallowed.

But yeah, some clarity and consistency would be nice.

Look, I think Marner is a whiny diving little baby as much as the next rational hockey fan, but he is objectively correct about this one. There is no excuse for that level of stupidity. Throwing basically anything but hats for a hat trick or something like a teddy bear toss should get you banned from the arena. Full beers? Hell, that should borderline get you arrested. It's just so incredibly, inexcusably stupid. It's a bad look and our fanbase deserves to get shredded for it.

Being there, in the moment, I didn't hate it.

But I do like a little crazy from a fan base.

And the crowd was bonkers from that point on.

That said, we made our point, no more of that.

I think they're pretty different, Calvert is basically by Blackwood when he gets tripped, but I think this one probably should've been called off too.
