Struggles? The guy has been fantastic on the blueline.

I think he's been struggling a lot lately with getting the puck out of the zone when under pressure, and teams have been picking up on it. Give him some time and he'll make really good passes, but he's having a few hiccups as the pace is picking up and teams are coming in harder. I think he's feeling the effects of the grind of the NHL season. He's also a lot more hesitant in the offensive zone than he was a few months ago when he was playing with more creativity.

Despite pretty good goals against numbers, I don't think I would call any of our D-men fantastic this year. The only guys I've really been impressed with was Martinez at the beginning of the year, Forbort early in the season, and Doughty when he had that nice point streak and looked like he was turning it around. The rest of it has been pretty meh.

He has all things considered. However, he is still a rookie, and learning, so he does still have the occasional flub. I agree that he has been fantastic, but fantastic doesn't not mean flawless. ;)

He said struggles. Not the same as "not flawless". The guy is already better than anyone else not named Doughty inside the blueline. And that whole numbers thing is nonsense. How many total points did Scuderi have in 2012? 9. Mitchell had 16 even strength points and Forbert already has 14 with 18 games to go. Forbert gets no pp time (which I think is a mistake).

I like what I've seen from Forbort, LaDue and Gravel a lot.

If they're were all veterans my feelings on them would be different, but considering the fact that they're all essentially rookies (granted relatively older rookies), I think they've been great.

Not seeing these "struggles" -- go thru the game threads and you will find very few mentions of any brainfarts and this board is brutal in that regard. In fact, he's a big part of the reason the pk is now 4th best in the league (after the team's brutal start to the year). He makes plays on D with his skating and reach that no one not named DD can make. The part that impresses the most though is that he's bringing it every night.
