This might be my dream scenario short of Skenes or Crews somehow falling due to injury.

20. Blue Jays: Thomas White, LHP, Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass. (No. 17)
White has similar stuff and less consistency than Meyer, though he does throw left-handed. It's hard to pinpoint landing spots for high school pitchers, who often land well over-slot deals in later rounds, though the Jays did spend lavishly on a prep lefty (Brandon Barriera) with their first-rounder at No. 23 last July.

He doesn't get mentioned a lot because he's been underwhelming but Kloffenstein is off to a much better start this year. Only 22 at AA.

Not sure where his velo is at now but I’m guessing his stuff was the culprit of his lack of success to date. 90-92 sink doesn’t tend to work well if you can’t control it.

I'm not going to act like I knew he was going to be this good, but man it would be nice to have Matsaka Yoshida in our lineup in hindsight.

It's a really strange timeline where the Cards, who by all intents and purposes have a playoff contender level roster are only three games ahead of the A's, who are basically the baseball version of a chop shop.

They seemingly have lost the plot with their lineup. Nolan Gorman, who has been their second best hitter next to Paul Goldschmidt has been tearing up in the DH spot. Oiliver Marmol for some reason has decided that Wilson Contreras (who has also been hitting well out of the catcher spot) will see some time at DH while also considering the latter play in the outfield (!)because Dylan Carlson has sucked ass. Where does Gorman go? No one knows. This is apparently based on the analytical data saying the team has performed worse with Wilson behind the plate...a month into the season, when the entire team blows.

Same shit with Jordan Walker. 3B by trade and your decision to leap frog him to the Majors and sticking him in the outfield will just work, Spoilers, he was like the worst defender in baseball and the Cards were disappointed with this result.

Their pitching is just trash too. Montgomery is the only guy who looks solid. Adam Wainwright got rocked in his rehab starts and now is getting rocked in the majors

That whole situation seems like a ridiculous gong show and the desperate manager is scapegoatting Contreras. There's an Athletic piece covering this decision that says Gorman will end up playing 2B to cede some DH games to Contreras which then means that they've created a logjam with 3 other players who would normally split a good portion of the 2B reps.

The same article suggests that part of the issue is that Contreras isn't comfortable calling games with the Cards' staff yet, possibly because the bench offers no input on how to call the game (they just expect the catcher to do it, seemingly as a side effect of having Yadi Molina do it for all those years) and he's not used to that. So they've come up with a brilliant strategy to get him more comfortable with that by... not allowing him to catch!

Genius!

It gets worse;

They're really blaming the fact their pitchers are all ass garbage on their newly signed catcher.

Kinda feel bad for him. Wilson raved about the Cardinals culture/atmosphere a bunch just after signing and now he's the fall guy lmao. Fans aren't buying it and i'm sure the players aren't either but yeesh.

Their manager sounds like he has no idea what he's doing. It's easier to hang this on the new catcher than it is on the pitching staff outside of Montgomery being garbage or the coaches for not making sure that the new guy is in position to succeed, so we'll just do that and pretend it's a fix while they sink deeper into the abyss.

If the Cards still want a catcher.

Jansen for Gorman works on BTV. Or Jansen for Hesley and another power arm like Cabrera or Pallante.
