Canucks are running a 44% score adjusted CF% since the Miller benching game. Worst in the league over that stretch. xGF% is a bit worse at 42% and no appreciable difference pre- and post-Hronek injury.

Still think the team needs to maximize the current Hughes window but don’t blame management for wanting to wait and see a bit, because that’s probably not salvageable if it keeps up for another 10-12 games.

The problem is that management has set expectations at a certain level and if they fail to meet them there will likely be consequences. This owner is not known for his patience.

I think they got a little ahead of themselves. They looked at what would have helped the team in the playoffs and made additions without realizing they still need to get to the playoffs, and their subtractions will have a bigger impact on that.

Heinen will be a guy that when you lose a winger or two to injury he can fill in up and down the lineup. They brought in some trees on defense because of how much they were getting hammered. There's logic behind the moves but they put too much stock in ifs and maybes.
plus they adressed speed on the wings. which was their 2nd achilles heel in the edmonton series. boeser is and will always be slow. garland good north south guy. now they have sasson as well. the D was the biggest questionmark heading into this season.

Listening to Drance on Canucks Talk, management was unsure about repeating the tall-dman roster strategy from last year. They did it as a trial this year. Meaning, it is not a template they believe in wholeheartedly. That is great news to me.

The focus has to be quality and not traits. Desharnais has a monstrous profile, but is on the outs because he can't play well enough. Soucy and Myers had strugged. Forbort wasn't a concern while Brannstrom was excelling etc...

Hopefully, that trial period is nearing its end and they work to increase the skill on defense, even at the expense of size.

I wouldn’t call it great news as you’d expect a competent management team to adapt their strategy to results.

I feel like the die has already been cast though. Management has already committed to a certain window with this core, and in some ways, the poor results almost necessitate bigger trades to stay on track.

I agree that pure rental trades make less sense but I also doubt they were planning on that given last years rentals.

They need to find another top four puck moving defensemen and then hope Tochett can adjust his system so that we are able to produce more offense but not at a significant cost to our offense.

Difficult task for management and there is a good chance the Canucks have peaked, but this retool was always going to difficult given the original pieces in place.

Don't see any GDT on the Sens game tonight......but so far, another bad first period on home ice.

Lose this one, and the Canucks are officially below the playoff bar in the West. Hardly where they expected to be, but where they belong, as least at the 30-game mark.

There was some decent defense this offseason

Massive indictment against this management with the guys decided to go with in Myers and desharnais

Was just thinking this the other day. Walman and Kovacevic for practically nothing really grinds my gears. Matt Roy was probably a pipe dream but his price tag ended up being very nice value.
Hell, it's a long deal, but Montour is looking full value for Seattle so far.

Kovacevic looks like one of the biggest steal of the offseason

Montreal is now looking for a defensive minded young defenceman that’s a right shot to play with hutson………. Like umm ok?

And they gave him away for a half eaten sandwhich

Him and siegenthaler are one of the more dominant pairings in the league

He’s a UFA at seasons end, he’s a giant and he’s right handed:

That alone gets him a contract offer from us next summer.

Add in the fact he’s playing 20 minutes a night on a good team…it’s safe to say the last time we saw someone recruited this hard by Vancouver…(well, I’m not sure exactly what it is, but there’s a Taylor Swift joke in there somewhere)…

Outside fan. Not following Canucks very closely. Curious about which player contracts fans are unhappy with? Does the team have any contracts you’d just tear up and thrown in the bin if you could? Thanks guys!

Vincent Desharnais and Nils Hoglander’s extension.

Trades. Other than EP or JTM

Trading Hoglander or Deharnias isn't going to get "the player" the Canucks need. There value just isn't high enough and in truth the Canucks aren't world beaters and if those guys aren't good enough here then all they are trading away is cap hits more than the return.
Neither player's absence will make an huge impact being part time guys right now.

Boeser on his last year of his contract before FA is a more major trade that could get the player they need. Defence, good ones are harder to find than wingers. That Boeser has scored 40 goals will excite a market. He could get the player they need not only for now but longer term and solidify a roster spot.
As far as replacing him, Horvat got 39 goals and then Boeser took his spot on the PP and got 40 goals. The team signed DeBrusk and he is on pace to score more than 30. All this shows is there are players that can put up 25+ goals if moved up a roster. There could be a few out there.

Suter, the Swiss army knife, another expiring contract, above Hogs and Deharnais' value but below Boeser's but not by much. His versatility might make him un-tradeable as far as the Canucks wanting to trade him.

IF trades are for the TODAY team then the future would included, prospects, possibly good future players that can't make an impact for a few years yet but some teams could take the time and save some cap hit. Obviously Willander and Lekkerimaki are the team's top prospects with higher value. IF trades are for today's team then they might have to be in play.

The team may find it too difficult to build for TODAY and two years in the future if management really believe this is the window NOW.

Garland might be value plus trade asset.

Are there trade partners? The playoff picture is solidifying pretty fast and the Canucks really don't want to help or trade with a direct competitor for a WC spot in the west.

Then depending upon who gets dealt there is the cap space to consider. Next year's cap increase and maybe more if the increase is only 5 mil, has already been used up in the buyouts.

Anything can be done if enough of the future is sacrificed.

I still think the best Boeser deal would include a RHD under cap control with maybe a high prospect or picks. Minnesota. Jiricek, RHD, 6' 4" at 975K and 23 yrs old. He would be an upgrade on some of the AHL dmen playing top 4 roles on the Canucks now, fit easily under the cap now and in the near future. A trade here would be a first step. It would help a competitor but it could be the best return now and longer term. Just an idea. NYR, Penns, CBJ, NYI ...

A Garland trade, there are eastern teams still close to a WC. But the Canucks aren't under the gun to move him.

Make my day.

I don't believe Montour is the player we need, not on that contract, he won't get much pp time here.

Kovacevic. I was disappointed we didn't get him. Not because I expected him to break out but because he was $766,666. Filled a need and dirt cheap. Satisfied the size queen coach.

Walman also filled a need. Yzerman paid to be rid of him so there is clearly something going on the background. Still with a look depending on what it was...

Instead we have spent $10m on 4 depth Dmen in Soucy, Myers, Forbort and VD.
