Canucks are running a 44% score adjusted CF% since the Miller benching game. Worst in the league over that stretch. xGF% is a bit worse at 42% and no appreciable difference pre- and post-Hronek injury.

Still think the team needs to maximize the current Hughes window but don’t blame management for wanting to wait and see a bit, because that’s probably not salvageable if it keeps up for another 10-12 games.

The problem is that management has set expectations at a certain level and if they fail to meet them there will likely be consequences. This owner is not known for his patience.

I think they got a little ahead of themselves. They looked at what would have helped the team in the playoffs and made additions without realizing they still need to get to the playoffs, and their subtractions will have a bigger impact on that.

Heinen will be a guy that when you lose a winger or two to injury he can fill in up and down the lineup. They brought in some trees on defense because of how much they were getting hammered. There's logic behind the moves but they put too much stock in ifs and maybes.

plus they adressed speed on the wings. which was their 2nd achilles heel in the edmonton series. boeser is and will always be slow. garland good north south guy. now they have sasson as well. the D was the biggest questionmark heading into this season.

Listening to Drance on Canucks Talk, management was unsure about repeating the tall-dman roster strategy from last year. They did it as a trial this year. Meaning, it is not a template they believe in wholeheartedly. That is great news to me.

The focus has to be quality and not traits. Desharnais has a monstrous profile, but is on the outs because he can't play well enough. Soucy and Myers had strugged. Forbort wasn't a concern while Brannstrom was excelling etc...

Hopefully, that trial period is nearing its end and they work to increase the skill on defense, even at the expense of size.

I wouldn’t call it great news as you’d expect a competent management team to adapt their strategy to results.

I feel like the die has already been cast though. Management has already committed to a certain window with this core, and in some ways, the poor results almost necessitate bigger trades to stay on track.

I agree that pure rental trades make less sense but I also doubt they were planning on that given last years rentals.

They need to find another top four puck moving defensemen and then hope Tochett can adjust his system so that we are able to produce more offense but not at a significant cost to our offense.

Difficult task for management and there is a good chance the Canucks have peaked, but this retool was always going to difficult given the original pieces in place.

Lose this one, and the Canucks are officially below the playoff bar in the West. Hardly where they expected to be, but where they belong, as least at the 30-game mark.

Was just thinking this the other day. Walman and Kovacevic for practically nothing really grinds my gears. Matt Roy was probably a pipe dream but his price tag ended up being very nice value.
Hell, it's a long deal, but Montour is looking full value for Seattle so far.

Kovacevic looks like one of the biggest steal of the offseason

Montreal is now looking for a defensive minded young defenceman that’s a right shot to play with hutson………. Like umm ok?

And they gave him away for a half eaten sandwhich

Him and siegenthaler are one of the more dominant pairings in the league

He’s a UFA at seasons end, he’s a giant and he’s right handed:

That alone gets him a contract offer from us next summer.

Add in the fact he’s playing 20 minutes a night on a good team…it’s safe to say the last time we saw someone recruited this hard by Vancouver…(well, I’m not sure exactly what it is, but there’s a Taylor Swift joke in there somewhere)…
