Confirmed with Link: Malkin re-signs to a 4 year, $6.1 million AAV deal (Eklund called it, start singing his praises)

Had a feeling this was all negotiation through the media. Once Rossi gets involved you know the agent is playing games.

Yeah, basically this. We have no idea what we're doing.

We have ownership that only understands spend, spend, spend. Hextall is the only GM in my lifetime that has attempted to build the proper way through the draft. If Patrick doesn't flame out so bad, the narrative may have been different on his tenure.

The current management is *so bad* at their job, they (Bobby Clarke) have gone out of their way to perform media hatchet jobs on Hextall to make it appear like he was the dope. My favorite is Clarke telling the media that every scout in the room wanted Makar, but Hextall basically gave them the metaphorical finger and took Patrick.

How much is it the Philadelphia media and fans that put pressure (and criticism) on ownership to win to the point that ownership/management has to cave in all the time? I wonder if that is the root of it?

Well maybe we weren't as gullible as to believe all the nonsense and idiocy that was permeating this and other sites. Maybe this is a cautionary tale not to believe second and third-hand information with people who clearly have agendas. That's on you and many here.

The team was at a plus 6 at 5v5 with Sid and Jake, and Geno without Jake, during the playoffs. I'm not really sure why those results are something that needs shaken up.

There are people here that hate Hextall now not relating to the Malkin negotiations. Maybe its because he's not a flashy GM like Shero or JR which I think is the root of the hate.

The thing I like about Hextall is he prioritizes the draft, draft picks and giving out smart contracts. This team is in a weird place between competing for 1 last cup and the inevitable rebuild. That isn't an easy place to be in and while mistakes made, he's still doing a dam good job overall given the circumstances. I hope FSG lets him stick around 4 years from now and let's him do the rebuild his way. It seems like Pickering is a good start.

I work nights and didn't check my phone before work

I was walking by a tv still on at work and Sportsnet was airing a video of Malkin and I thought yeah yeah the getting ready for free agency package but when I got closer and saw it said he re-signed... I just stopped and started crying

I'm so happy Geno has been my guy since day 1, my most favorite player since Mario

WAIT!!!! WHAT??? This can't be! I was told all hope had ended & Geno was gone & Hexy was a Phillthy scum moron & FSG was heartless, soulless people. Went to sleep with the world ending & woke up to Geno Magically signed?? what kind of sorcery can this be ??
