Have you watched Malkin at all in these olympics?? You clearly underrate Malkin's abilities.
I just mentioned Crosby will be a better skater, has better hockey sense, and is better in the Corners.
I understand Malkin will be a force in the NHL.
What abilities do you think I underestimate?

Crosby and Malkin are both equally good skaters, but they have radically different styles. Both can FLY, but Crosby looks like Forsberg when he's doing it with his wide stance and short strides. Malkin looks much more effortless like the Lemieux of old.

Uh... yes, as I typed IMO at the end of the post.
Unbelievable.
Crosby is quickly becoming one of the most underrated players on these boards.

I would agree with this.

Crosby does however have much superior foot speed to Forsberg, but has similar skating styles which make them both unbelievably hard to knock off the puck.

Did you just call Sidney Crosby underrated?!

:biglaugh:

Easily the most over-hyped athlete of all-time.
Really.

Well he will be the first 18 year old and the youngest one to finish in the top 10 in the league in scoring since Wayne Gretzky did it 27 years ago. And this is of course while playing on the worst team in the league.

You do realise that right?

He'll have to turn it up a little bit to get into the top 10 though, seeing as he's 12th right now, with games in hand on virtually every other player ahead of him.

Spezza is far from a given over Crosby and Savard is arguable at best.

Marleau and Staal maybe.

As for Richards, i'm not sure i like him on big ice but it's not like it's a bad choice.

I think i would have bring Marleau as the 4th guy with Lecavalier, Thornton and Sakic because of speed and kind of play but... dont ask me to back up my statements... That's why either way, the centers werent a bad choice, the depth is huge.

However, when you got that much talent down the middle. There are no reason to explain why 1 or 2 of those coulnt go as wingers (especially considering some of them have already play wings before...) over the like of Draper and Doan who are both looking outplay by most right now.

Still, it was not the reason why they lost to Switzerland. Coaching was and lack of effort/logic. It seems Canada HAS to play crash the net no matters who's on the ice... what the hell. Ask Thornton and Nash to do so is alright, asking the Sakic and Richards of the world to do so... yeah right.

Canada have always been one of the few, if not the only country with the ability to plays any kind of game. Makes your lines with this in mind and role different strategy frequently, this will leads to mistakes defensively.

And on the PP, That team was giving the point free by making a small box on the pk. Yet, we keeps making the small passes on the point and finish the play in the corner. You got some monstruous D-Men shoots, USE them. it will go in.

wow this is SO ridiculous ...

does Afinogenov would have made Canada team if he was canadian? what about Korolyuk? with Nash and Thornton?

Korolyuk make russians team? why Crosby dosent make canada team?

you know if Malkin was canadian he wouldn't have made team canada either,

now ... you can have a discussion about why Crosby isn't there, but compare crosby situation to malkin situation, c'mon ...

and btw, im much more upset about Eric Staal not on team canada that Crosby.

As good as Malkin's hockey sense is, IMO Crosby's is better.
Crosby is stronger than Malkin and is better in the corners.

When you consider acceleration, stability, lateral motion, strength on the puck, Crosby is also a better skater.

Crosby has grown up in North America playing on NHL sized rinks and is used to the style of play here here as well.

Malkin will be a great 2 way player, but he will not score at the pace Crosby does, or will.

Malkin still has some filling out to do. He is at what, 190 now? He should fill out to about 210 or 215 or so. He is a big kid. He reminds me of a faster Ronnie Francis with a better shot. That's not a bad comparison at all. Can't wait till he gets over here next year to Pittsburgh(hopefully).

I think Malkin can score at the pace of Crosby if not better over the long haul. Crosby is stronger on the puck, but I think Malkin is a better skater overall. He makes it look effortless, just effortless. Two fantastic hockey players, that will be amazing to watch together for the next 15 years.

With Crosby/Malkin/Fleury/Whitney/Welch etc the Pens have a bright future...and I hope it's here in Pittsburgh.

You totally underappreciare what Crosby has done for your franchise. How many fans were you guys getting before Crosby arrived?

He is doing something this year that hasn't been done since Gretzky's rookie year, he probably single handidly saved your franchise, and you come on here and tout some Russian, playing in the league over there and claim he is somehow better?

How ungreatfull!!! :shakehead

Jesus friggin Christ...

No I don't underappreciate Crosby. I think he is a fantastic player, I think he is a franchise center. He has been everything he has touted to be and more.

I'm just saying from watching Malkin I think he could be just as good. He is a different player, and plays a different game, but I like the way he plays.

I won't know how things will shake out until Malkin gets over here, hopefully next year. Hopefully they feed off on another, even though I doubt they will play on the same line except on the PP.

So I don't know where you get off calling me ungrateful, I was just stating my thoughts on Malkin from seeing him the past few days. I wasn't trying to tear down Crosby. I think the kid is fantastic.

Crosby isn't on the team because Burke wanted players with "more on ice maturity". It's the same stupid old school Canadien crap of "cutting the boy down to size" that causes the refs to ignore so many blatant penalties committed against him. Hockey Canada wants Crosby to act like Joe Sakic on the ice. That's a shame, because Joe Sakic is quite possibly the most boring sports personality ever. That guy needz to get himself a Chad-Johnson-esque grille.

Great post.

"..........some Russian, playing in the league over there........."

that's a pretty ignorant thing to say

Lecalavier proves himself on the international stage by winning the World Cup MVP, yet it's folly to pick him over an 18-year-old Sidney Crosby?

LOL! Grow up.

Anyone can get hot in a tournament.
Remind me again how many points he has this year? He is 56th in league scoring. I am sick and tired of how overated Lecavalier is.

Well for one, who is Crosby going to replace at Centre? Not Sakic, not Lecavalier, not Thornton, and not Richards. For one Crosby is too young, secondly Malkin is better, I think anyways...and thirdy it's probably easier to make the Russian team since they don't have the depth like the Canadians.

Well I am not that much of a Crosby fan... but even I can see & admit that he is Canada's Future. One thing I have been impressed with by Crosby this season is his heart & skill. For anyone that cares I was supporting Ove before season starting... so this supports out of the blue. Crosby whining etc.. theory I attribute to the NHL over-hyping him to Godly proportions & public whiplash. Maybe some of it is deserved but heck he's only 18 yrs old. I defended Kovy when people were ragging on him for showboating... which I attributed to youthful exuberence. I'd give Crosby couple years to grow-up before start labeling him. Crosby has definately had better season than the players I've listed below... Oh and Canada will need Crosby after Sakic retires.

Here's Canada's roster... http://www.nhl.com/olympics/2006/canada_oly_roster.html Anyways, I would have chosen Crosby over Smyth, St. Louis (one great season & now given a free-pass...), Draper (great roleplayer who works plays/hard but I'd rather go with Crosby's talent), Doan (brings toughness to the team but Canada already has enough of it & I think Doan's over-rated) Crosby could have played different position... wouldn't be the first time a player played off position.

So if you don't think Crosby is one of the Top 5 or 10 Canadian born Centers right now you are ignoring his talent?
No, I was trying to say that Malkin would not have been on Canada either and it's ridiculous when people say Malkin is better than Crosby
