Datsyuk took over games like no one else I've seen. I'm not talking about statistical or award worthy dominance, I'm talking about skill and what happened on the ice. Datsyuk also played defense, Malkin doesn't. I'm willing to bet that Datsyuk's numbers would be much better if he sacrificed defense for offense. If Datsyuk was a Pen and Malkin a Wing, we'd be having a different conversation imo.

And Malkin will never touch Feds in terms of pure skill and dominance. It's not nostalgia-it's fact.

Don't be a hypocrite. You're the biggest Pens homer here. Sorry, that two of the best Russians to play in the NHL wore a winged wheel. One of which is the best.

i agreed with the guy saying ovechkin is the best russian player

malkin is number 2 and could exceed him soon

datsyuk is not in their league anymore, fedorov isn't either though arguing him isn't ridiculous like arguing bure or some russian that played 100 years ago

I agree that some names being floated around are absurd. It's a five man discussion.

Datsyuk

No other Russian has a say. However, Fedorov was a monster - just because Malkin and Ovechkin have the awards doesn't automatically make them the best. I put skill and just overall talent over awards. Feds is the most diverse, reliable, and talented. His skating was effortless and could literally do EVERYTHING on the ice. He's the greatest Russian to ever grace the ice.

Period. He also has a few cups too.

I don't understand why trophies are somehow mic droppers in these arguments.

I would take Datsyuk over Malkin as well, I think he was the better all around player.

You wing fans are delusional, Dats didn't even have a quality playoff until he was 28 years old.....


Malkin is only 30!!!

If you're going to ask the question, "Who is the highest scoring Russian who has won the most Stanley Cups since 2000?" then you will get the answer you are obviously looking for.

Otherwise, based on the question asked....no.
 
We'll see what Malkin does from here on in, but some players age terribly into their 30s. Like Hawerchuk and Goulet.

agreed. Malkin is good but he plays on a great team with Crosby so much of his cups and points are NOT his alone to claim.
As for VK, I have NEVER seen a faster with the full puck control at top speed player. Clark had to break his ankle or Canada will lose.
not a big player, not a long nhl life, but thats NOT the point.
Kharlamov was the MOST dangerous Russian player I have EVER seen.
I might add, Malkin on euro ice is not a fast player as many others.

Bure is a cheap knock off of OV, he belongs nowhere in this conversation. Datsyuk and Fedorov are 2 of the most overrated players ever who combined didn't even have 5 elite seasons. If Fedorov had so much skill and "overall talent" he would've had more than 2 elite seasons. It's OV and Malkin, then the rest.
 
I ask that people read Feds wiki page,its a good read with many quotes from other NHL stars and coaches.
Feds was world class at every aspect of the game.If you break down each skill and say whos better at each Feds wins every single one over Malkin,plain and simple especially skating.Feds was in many peoples opinion the best skater to ever play.Malkin is a great player,but a prime Feds was on another level.

You mean prime? Datsyuk was elite his entire career.

He just got old. Which is you know, natural.

And no, Malkin's 11/12 season isn't better than what Feds had. Hate to break it to you.
