Yeah, he basically said bringing him back would be hard, but there are "a lot i's to dot and t's to cross" IMO, they are going to do everything they can to bring him back. Moving on from Val would certainly open up space for him to re-sign here.Thats an overreaction
They wouldn't say any different until the path is known. Gabe's words were also pretty clear on how he is viewed. They wouldn't be so blatant about termination if they were completely behind him coming back.Yes he said that, but he also said numerous times that if he gets his shit right they would expect him back. He commented numerous times on how hes a big piece of the on ice puzzle and a heck of a hockey player. I am 100% sure they are considering termination, but it didn't sound like they were leaning that way. They are considering everything.
Nice, now if we can only get Bednar to learn how to meet with the trainersI'd say it's 95% Nichushkin is gonzo.
Avalanche lawyers are/will be working with NHL, NHLPA and Nuke's agents on a resolution that ends the relationship and clarifies the salary cap repercussions with the league. CMac obviously met with Kroenke's lawyers and was told how to respond.
CMac wouldn't have even mentioned the whole word "termination" if they were leaning on bringing Nuke back. And if that was a question, he would've answered along the lines "we are 100% behind Nuke, and termination is not something that's even remotely contenplated".They wouldn't say any different until the path is known. Gabe's words were also pretty clear on how he is viewed. They wouldn't be so blatant about termination if they were completely behind him coming back.
And then there is the Makar question mark? Are they going to wait another summer to see how his hip responds to rest? With the thought that if it doesn't work, you can strategically schedule a surgery? Or is this just how Makar is going to look now and the days of peak Makar are behind us?What I got from that presser is…
Still uncertain if Landy will be back
Val will be back with the Avs
They probably can’t resign Drouin
Will probably have JJ and Cogs back
Lehky is the only one that will have a surgery(shoulder)
Not much to get excited for upcoming season. Just so many question marks.
CMac basically said Ritchie would have to be phenomenal in camp to get a spot. He won't be slotted in during this summer.Sounds like guys like Duhaime and Trenin will probably be replaced by Kovalenko and Foudy. Ritchie probably won’t make the Avs just yet
Not sure, but Makar himself said there is nothing lingering. So he probably doesn’t need surgeryAnd then there is the Makar question mark? Nichushkin is so coming back
There is still no timeline for Landy. It was supposed to be 12 to 16 months but Landy himself said 12-18 but nothing certain yet. He said he’s time line is basically from September to AprilI mean, if you're completely incapable of reading between the lines or understanding tone/context, sure....
- Landy will be back
- Val will ot be back
- They're going to do everything they can to bring Drouin back
- Cogs and JJ probably back if they want to play another year(We know JJ does).
He also made specific mention of utilizing the 10% buffer this summer. They'll have some room to do things with that buffer + Nuke not counting on the cap.
I can't wait for the Avs to be in Game 7 of the Cup Finals, Nuke having a truly resurgent run, only to find out that day he has been pulled again for hoovering all the pharmaceuticalsYeah he might as well already be back with them doing some more blow because that's exactly what's going to happen again.
If Cogs and JJ want to remain as Avs for basically league minimum, I'm cool with that. You need to fill those spots with somebody, and I don't really care if it's a vet or some career AHLer or a B-prospect when the cost is basically the same.- Cogs and JJ probably back if they want to play another year(We know JJ does).
CMac said at this time, termination is not an option. A lot of heavy lifting being done there. There is still no timeline for Landy. It was supposed to be 12 to 16 months but Landy himself said 12-18 but nothing certain yet. He said he’s time line is basically from September to April
CMac said it’s very plausible Val is back with the Avs because termination is not an option. Didn’t say anything about trading him. It sure looks like they gonna give him another chance
And he said signing Drouin is gonna be a big challenge
This was always the case, it's a first for a hockey player this surgery. The fact that the rehab has been progressing well and no set backs, should tell you we are well on our way for Landy to return. There is still no timeline for Landy. It was supposed to be 12 to 16 months but Landy himself said 12-18 but nothing certain yet.
CMac said termination is not an option at this point. The very fact that they talked about terminating that deal in such a way should tell you something. Also, Landy didn't sound overly supportive for Nuke, more along the lines of how he felt disappointed and crushed for the other players. "We'll see", if Nuke is able to come back to that locker room.CMac said it’s very plausible Val is back with the Avs because termination is not an option. Didn’t say anything about trading him. Well this is just a straight up fact. What most makes sense for both parties (if he wants to remain as an Av) is to sign another 1 year deal at smallish money, and hope that he will put up a monster season next to MacKinnon, then cash in next summer. And he said signing Drouin is gonna be a big challenge
Same goes for Mikko. I mean you can be hurt but not require surgeryThe concerning not mention was Makar not needing surgery. Sounds weird, but if he played the way he did defensively without something being pretty wrong… that’s concerning
Termination is not an option right now period. It only becomes an option at stage 4 or 5. So Val has to screw up one or two more times for termination to become an option.CMac said at this time, termination is not an option. A lot of heavy lifting being done there.
