I liked his time here. Wasn't the best, but wasn't the worst either. Hope he doesn't have any lingering issues from the pneumonia. In all reality the other bottom pairing vets we have don't have any value around the league (unless Dubas has fond memories of Holl). So at least we got a decent asset outta him. Thank you for your time here Oli.

Very happy to get a 3rd for maatta, 2025 draft is very deep draft for Sweden and I hope they let Hakan work his magic.

I liked Maatta he was very solid and I feel relatively comfortable with him out there than Holl or Petry. But we dont get this return for Maatta at the deadline so I dont mind.

This also highlights how bad the Walman deal was.

He was a serviceable bottom pairing guy but I can understand why he'd free up a roster spot to play someone like johansson. Maatta's was really the most tradeable contract .

Good luck in Utah!

Something must've happened behind the scenes with that one.

Must have yeah.

I find these quotes from Walman weird though

“I just thought I’d built such a strong foundation in Detroit, not just with the team but in Detroit,” Walman said. “My heart was there, you know? I wanted to bring that success and passion to Detroit. It was my first time, like I’ve said to you before, that I felt like I was in a place that loved me, and I loved that place. It was my first time feeling comfortable in a city. That was it, kind of just over in a flash, like that.”

I suppose he could be an absolute fraud who lied to the reporter.

Anyway, don't wanna derail this thread too much. My standing theory is that Yzerman saw a epidemic spreading in Detroit, the kids were doing an excessive amount of Griddy's, affecting the day to day life of every Detroitian. Yzerman had to do something.

I might be totally off base, but I recently watch a podcast with Ian White. Who I personally liked but was rightfully run out of town suddenly in a similar fashion as Jake because Ian liked to party too much.

I wonder if Jake has the same problem.

Anyways Jake's killing it and Im happy for him.

So far it seems I’ve yet to hear of legit good reasons for Walman being run out. He had a tough year but so did pretty much our whole defense and I think he is a lot better than the guys we have in our bottom 4 now because they are atrocious. If it was because he liked to party and celly too much then get over it. Sometimes it does feel like the brass of this organization are living in the wrong century. Our biggest issue on defense is we can’t skate in our bottom 4 and yzerman just keeps signing people like that. It’s 2024!

I wasn't all that active around here during the summer but I thought I remember Larkin during training camp media day saying something like not everyone being bought in towards the end of last year (whatever that means) and I couldn't help but think that was related to Walman.

I like this trade a lot. A 3rd is a good return, but more importantly it opens the door for AJ a little more. I liked Maatta, although sometimes his decisions left me scratching my head. Thankfully not as regularly as some other defenceman.

I wish him all the best.

It is only you who should get over it. Are you gonna whine about this for a decade?

Get over the "jake walman this and that" crybaby. We opened a spot for Edvinsson to play at Top4. And some off-things involved. That's the Yzerman way, not a crybaby way.

Now we opened a spot for Johansson and some capspace for a bigger move at defence.

The long-term plan was ALWAYS to grow up the own kids, and then get rid of the placeholders. Hopefully, if things go in good way like at Määttä case, get some extra picks and free up cap space.

Many things haven't gone in good way, like Vrana or Walman. But hockey world is not perfect like we have seen.

I think this is a good example of why it's sometimes good to play the waiting game. Utah got some injuries and became a bit desperate.

Määttä had two really solid seasons for us but he always did seem like one of the guys that were the most moveable and expendable. A really bad start for him didn't exactly make the decision more difficult.

yes you shouldnt be able to talk about hockey moves on a hockey forum. You just have to blindly clap and follow.

I respect your schtick but we should be able to say that walman trade was bit of a head scratcher.

Always was surprised that he wasn't that old, seems like he has been in the league for a very long time.
