that.... thats not how it works?

That’s exactly how it works. If I’m an elite player and I’m playing with a below average player. I’m going to sacrifice some of my offense to be more defensively responsible.

I’m not going to jump up into the play every chance I get and leave that guy stranded on an island.

If im the better or more skilled partner it’s on me to ensure the pairing has succes. Im not going to do something I know puts my partner in a tough spot, which is what Morgan does unfortunately way too often. He’s a great player and leader but he’s not a #1

Brodie Liljegren
Benoit McCabe
Reilly Lybushkin
Lagesson

Hopefully a better Dman is acquired to move a Reilly pairing further up

I'm guessing he may take a run at Walker or a like RHD that can actually move the puck

Was disappointed that he left us the first time but glad we didn't pay what Buffalo did when he was a free agent. His contribution might be measured by a hard hit that knocks an important opposition player out of a playoff game or series. Would rather have Luke Schenn back but this move is fine.

So where does he play?

3rd pair with Liljergen maybe?

LOL

I think they will go

Brodie Liljegren
Rielly Bush
Benoit McCabe

I think against the bolts last season they went

Brodie McCabe
Rielly Schenn
Gio (I don't wanna think about that oaf)

Benoit Brodie pairing has been pretty good

that said, I won't be surprised if they went

Brodie McCabe
Rielly Bush
Benoit Liljegren
Gio

This price wasn’t even remotely high
If anything, it might only be that from the perspective of quantity. While a 3rd can conceivably become a player of value in the future, the chances of that happening aren't exactly all that great.

The same people hated both the Schenn deal, the Bogosian deal and the Benoit deal.
Schenn worked well as the RD partner for Hughes prior to trading for him. He was a great fit from the beginning and worked with Rielly.

I don't recall Boosh working with Rielly.

a third isn't nothing.

If it is just get another nothing pick for laggesson then or timmins in the off season.
What would you prefer and realistically?

A 3rd when a team regardless if we believe it or not thinks they have a chance will do this trade anytime.

I don't think this trade was that big of a deal.

Hainsey had a resurgence with Rielly

Schenn was great with rielly and got a 2.8M contract after that

Hunwick was a 6/7D

Robidas played I think a little with rielly when Rielly was a rookie

Brodie and Rielly have been good for 2.5 of the 4 years they played together

Gleason played in either 2014 or 2015 when Rielly was rookie/second year during Kessel era and he was soon out the NHL

Brodie has been the only top 4D Rielly plays with and they have been good for the most part.

Slavin has had Pesce in his prime or Hamilton

Pietrangelo had a Parayako or Boumeester

Hanafin has Andersson or Weegar at the moment

Q. Hughes has Hronek

Makar has Toews

Point is Rielly is a 1D who hasnt ever had a partner who can carry the load bedies him like a lot of other elite D-man get

One 100% understand that argument but there still has to be accountability with how he plays. Yeah it would be nice to see what Rielly can do with a legit top pairing guy. But if you don’t have that personnel you also can’t just play the way that he does because it leads to break downs in the defensive zone.

If you're in a tizzy, blame golden boy for leaving us with nothing. Listening to a former pro scout today say we're completely handicapped for trades, no picks and one of the worst prospect pools in the league, literally two guys and two middling nothing prospects.
Exactly. We have nothing to trade away sans a 1st and Cowan.

Probably why when people are proposing trades for Hanifin, Larsson, Anderson etc. the offer is always 1st, Abruzzese, Timmins, Minten, Steeves, vouchers, a hand job and 2 weeks paid vacation.

i'd prefer not to do anything if it doesn't move the needle
