Sigh.

Some rose coloured glasses when it comes to Boosh around here.. he's nothing special and isn't the top 4 guy we need here. His first stint as a Leaf was meh at best.

Waste of assets IMO .. We'll the same kind of criticism Dubas is getting now from moves in previous years.

Hate throwing away picks like this.
Depth, and a right hand we need badly. No, he's nothing special, but we need him. D is better then it was 6 hours ago.

You don't think maybe Schenn's stock was boosted by his much longer stretch playing with Quinn Hughes?

How much could his stock possibly have been boosted when all he cost was a 3rd at the deadline? And are you really going to argue that Schenn's stock wasn't boosted by playing for the Leafs?

Let's see how he plays with this newer group of Leafs. The last time he was here the team was full of p***yes and he was doing all the hitting and scrumming. Throw him along with Benoit , Reaves , McCabe , Domi , McMann, snotty Rielly and it could be the piece that changes the team identity like Tre wanted.

Or maybe he just makes a few hits plays mid and gets limited minutes. We will have to see. But I think being on a tougher team is a good thing. We will be the hammer not the nail.

Schenn’s value boosted based on his high profile playoff run in Toronto. We even joked on this board that winning one round did more to help him secure the bag than winning two Stanley Cups with Tampa in a depth role as he priced himself out of a return. He leveraged that cameo perfectly…

The lengths some people will go to throw any kind of shade at the Leafs. Unbelievable.

This is not even remotely close to how badly Dumbass flushed draft picks and prospects down the toilet.

Dumbass gave away a 1st for an injured Nick Foligno.

Dumbass gave away a 3rd for Dave the Save Rittich.

Dumbass gave away a 2nd and Nick Ritchie - - just a few months after inexplicably giving Ritchie a $2.5x2yr contract - - for Lybushkin

Dumbass gave away Mason Marchment for something called a Denis Malgin.

Those were a waste of assets. This is not. It’s not even close.

Definitely not among my favourite targets but I had a feeling he'd be the target for the price range the Leafs were targetting. Getting him at 687k means the Leafs added a bottom pairing RHD veteran they really needed for nothing on the cap.

I'd say Giordano is likely gone until the playoffs or used in a #7-8 role. I'd say Timmins is also either traded or unlikely to be healthy for the season. This means the Leafs might have the cap flexibility to pull off another upgrade somewhere if they find one.

He'll add some physicality and he's a shot blocking machine for the PK. Injuries pile up fast, so we're definitely a little more equipped to handle the grind. He's terrible with the puck though and so the Leafs will need to insulate him quite a bit.

I think another D man is coming higher quality though. They made sure to get double retention for a reason.

By the way, those who are talking about his chart, and saying it’s bad because of Anaheim. JFresh just posted Gudas chart. It got better at Anaheim.

He's been terrible for a long time. His ability with the puck is very weak and he's proned to terrible decisions.

He's 4th among shot blocks per 60 and up there in hits. That's his game. People wanted more snarl and he adds it in spades. Our ability to move the puck didn't get better at all.

Just to get some perspective, how much did Dubas pay to get Lyubushkin?

Just checked: it was a second rounder! (Along w another bad contract).
Then: Lyubushkin and Dzingel (the latter didn't suit up here) for Ritchie and a 2nd

Now: Lyubushkin (cheaper now w/retention x 2) and Slepets for a 3rd and 6th

Now > Then, no?

I’m not sure the argument is it’s bad because of Anaheim. Moreso it looks worse than it should because of Anaheim. As for Gudas, could be an outlier. Would have to see more.

It's fine and it makes sense. But 2 more picks out the door for a rental + retention. Yes, it is the same thing the previous GM did. The excitement of a fresh deal and maybe a different perspective since it's a different GM. But it's the exact same kind of move. Just saying.

It's the same type of move regardless of who the GM is.

Does it seem realistic that they traded for him to be a 7? Why spend for that? I can't see it, even though thats a better fit for his skills than top 4. They got him to play him.
I think they traded for him as either Rielly’s partner or as a 7th D.

If we can swing a trade for a better D, they will be Rielly’s partner. If not, Boosh will fill in that role.

Basically where I'm at. Team has issues beyond the depth and wasting pick to reshuffle some chairs isn't going to fix the underlying issues IMO.

It's why I've been against rental players this deadline. If they're going to make a deal at least invest in multiple years, or the long term .. now the Leafs have zero picks in the first 4 rounds in 2025.
