Considering everyone's definition of power forward seems to be different, I can definitely see some considering him one.

I think he will mature into one. The definition of power forward is changing along with the game itself. He will be able to use his strength and speed on the forecheck to create plays down-low. That is the new definition of power forward, dont think Neely - think more like a playmaking Nash type player.

This term is tossed around way too much around here in my opinion. It seems everyone with size is called a "power forward".

If you define a power forward as a banger who fights and puts the puck in the net Taylor Hall isn't a power forward. He couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag, and while he does throw his body around when its required he isn't running around hitting everything that moves.

If however you define a power winger as a player who gets the puck and takes it to the front of the net with no regard for his own safety then maybe he is. Hall goes through people, around people, and sometimes both at the same time. This is more of a characteristic of a power winger than a pure finesse guy, so maybe that's where the description comes from.

Just the other day he cut to the middle against two Plymouth defenders and got absolutely smoked by Leo Jenner, however he got the shot off before taking his lumps. He knew he was going to get smoked too, but did it anyway. He's fearless.

like another poster has already said, the term 'power-forward' is different to each individual. the term has evolved since the days of cam neely, mark messier and eric lindros and nowadays many players are being coined as a power forward.

is taylor hall a power forward? no, he's not. he's an extremely skilled forward who can play with an edge.

About as much of a power forward as Iginla is now, or Nash but with a little more edge.

Depends on your definition of 'Power Forward'. If you thinking Milan Lucic, then no. If you are thinking Bob Probert, then no. If you are thinking Jarome Iginla, possibly. However, if you are thinking Glenn Anderson, yep.

From the five or so games i have seen Hall play, he reminds me a lot of Glenn Anderson with some more hockey sense. If he has a career like Anderson's, i will be a happy Oilers fan.

He just has that same fearless style, anything to go to the net as hard and fast as possible.

What? you dont see his "Messier factor" and his "body type" and his "pure power forward game that is so reminiscent of Mark Messier"?

- Regis Maguire, regularly on Ottawa radio.

Could regis be the source of this?
i remember him saying this a few times and thinking to myself i must have had the wrong number for Hall at the WJC.
I saw a superfast, smooth great hands goal scoring winger with some nice vision.
Not a bone crushing, hard shooting shooting Moose on skates that can scare the **** out of the other team by staring at them.

And in this case, someone without size....

In this day and age, anyone who throws a hit is a power forward. Even some who don't!

From what I've seen of Hall, he's not a power forward. He's a kid who can put the puck in the net and distribute it just as well. He can be physical, but he's no where near a power forward.

Taylor Hall comparison: Guy Lafleur?

I know its out there! lol but both speedy wingers, not overly physical but that don't shy away from the rough game with game breaking abilities. Do you think they could be comparable in playing style?

Of course I'm not saying Taylor Hall will have a Lafleur-like career, however, I can see some similarities.

Your thoughts?

Taylor Hall in Edmonton?

Seems that ever since the draft lottery most people seem convinced that Hall wants to play in Boston and is just giving Edmonton lip service. Does this have any Oilers fan worried? If I remember correctly, Hall's agent is Bobby Orr and he wears number 4 because of Orr, and seemed to be praising Boston more than the other teams in the lottery. Is this just people hopping on the "no one wants to play in Edmonton" bandwagon or is it of legit concern? Tambellini was adamant in his end of year conference about how he only wants players that want to play in Edmonton, and was visibly upset. Would this factor into his decision at the draft at all?

I don't think it would affect the draft at all. At the end of the day you take the best player or best player of the future. You don't worry about them having a different favorite team. This isn't a lindros or eli manning scenario this is just a player who happens to have a different favorite team. This is the same that happened last year where duchene loved the avalanche and explicitly stated they were his favorite team. Now if the islanders would of picked him do you think it would matter that much? Sure he may be disappointed he doesn't get to play for them but he still would be the first overally picked and i'm sure thrilled to be with the islanders as would the islanders have been in selecting him.

I must have missed where Hall said he'd pull a Lindros. I assume all that "I'd like to play for a Canadian team" stuff was lip service too?

This isn't even on my radar. No one in Edmonton that I know of is worrying about this.

Yes, we all know that deep down he's not going to be playing for the teams he probably wants to most - Toronto or Ottawa.

At some point, we're all just going to have to get over this tragedy.

I wish we would've passed on Crosby after learning that he was a die-hard Habs fan before the draft.

He's done nothing but drag ass since he's been here, biding his time for UFA so he can be with his beloved Habitants.
