LW/RW Nikolaj Ehlers (2014, 9th, WPG) III

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. Nope, and still nope.

A reporter asked Ehlers if he'd ever had two great scoring chances at the end of a period (1st and 3rd last night) without scoring, and he said "Yes". He's a serious young player. He has mad skills, and great intensity. He's better than I expected him to be at this stage of the NHL season. He's creating chances consistently and getting better with each game. Based on his play so far, I don't think 20 goals and 50-60 points are out of the question for his rookie season.

incorrect. google the name "bryan trottier."

There is no chance that Ehlers gets sent anywhere now. He is too good. The ESP line may be getting pushed for more favourable zone starts, but they're making it look like it was the right choice.

^ Correct.

He is one of the more exciting players I have watched in the whole NHL during many games. Him and Domi are so fun to watch and they are just so dynamic

Jets are doing an awesome job letting him adjust to NHL. He is one of Jets best players already while only averaging 15 mins a night. Im sure his average ice time will keep increasing throughout year and I cant wait to see how many more points he will pick up while playing more

Have to say that I'm extremely pleased that they did not. Ehlers looking like quite the steal right now.

It's rare to combine explosiveness and hockey sense. It's even rarer to combine those two with size. Kid's got two out of three. IMO, that's a rarer combo than MDC. Thought that then, think that now.

Not sure I would put the steal label there yet as the top 10-14 of that draft is looking pretty deep. Great pick to be sure and he's doing great, but at the end of the day it could turn out that a lot of those picks are interchangeable, rather than many of them being vastly superior to another (which is sort of necessary for someone to be considered a steal at their pick). Not a knock on him at all, just nit picking I guess about labeling players a steal, especially top 10 picks. Excellent to get a player of that quality at 10th any way you look at it though.

An early summary looking a bit deeper into the numbers of top rookies is here: http://jetsnation.ca/2015/10/26/why-nikolaj-ehlers-looks-to-be-for-real-and-has-legit-shot-at-the-calder

A couple of graphs below for those who like the nerdy stuff (or just like blue and pink baubles)...

Summary?

He has 6 points in 8 games (3 goals), which reflects his chances since his shooting percentage is about 10%. He's also nailed three goal posts in the past couple of games.

Graph 1: Ehlers is generating a ton of scoring chances, both individually and for his team.

Graph 2: Ehlers is facing tough competition (top left of the graph), and has a very positive impact on shot attempts (dark blue color).

Eichel and Ehlers are terrible shooters.... :D

That brings to mind an interesting thing. Eichel has what you would likely call a sustainable SH%. So does Ehlers. Ehlers at this point is the leader in scoring chances. Eichel is 2nd. At what point does one outstrip the other and lead to better production? That'll be interesting to see.

I agree. I still say Eichel and Mc David are the real contenders but Larkin and Ehlers also are putting up an argument early on. :handclap:

Its a long season so therell be a ton of streaks, but Ehlers leading rookies in shots boads well for sustainability

One of the best rookie classes ever?
