Not too sure Ehlers is 170 lbs anymore but he is definitely faster and stronger than his stint last year in training camp.

Claude Giroux is 5 11 and 176 pounds and he has played in the NHL for years now. I think you might be over reacting.

You dont need to be 6ft 2 200lbs to survive anymore.

Giroux's 10 pounds heavier than that, but your point is valid.

He is so dynamic and is going to be such an exciting player down the road...him and Domi are deadly so far... love how there are a lot of potentials for the Calder this year so far

Ehlers with another goal and more shots. I do have to say that he made some dumbo moves today . It was like he was still on Demark time for this early game. However, he righted himself nicely as the game wore on.

It got changed to an assist as it touched Stafford's elbow as it went in lol.

Kid is going to be a complete stud. He seems to create scoring chances every shift. It is almost looking like he has a few years of NHL experience out there IMO, he just looks so calm and confident with the puck.

Him, Scheifele, Trouba, Connor, Petan and Hellebuyck in the system? Exciting times.

Tell me Jets fans. Doesnt he remind you of Selanne in some ways? Every time Ehlers has the puck arent you anticipating something is going to happen?

We used to feel that way every time Bure touched the puck in the neutral zone. :handclap:

I get a little tingle of anticipation when he winds up in the NZ. His goal tonight was off a simple passing play off the rush, but it was no less effective. Man, if only he had've scored on one of his other 2 chances. Perreault springing Ehlers for that breakaway with less than 10 seconds left was magical. He had Bish beat, too. Stupid post.

Still can't believe the canucks passed on him and nylander for virtanen

Kid is flying a bit under the radar, and has been unlucky not to produce more goals....will be right up there come Calder time.

Swede and Canadian vs. Dane = Less hype. He was rising quickly just before he got drafted...Everybody basically agreed that he would have gone even higher a year later. Nobody just really noticed him as much as those two.

People also lazily claimed that he was doing well due to Drouin...Which was lazy because they played on different lines.

It's going to be an interesting year for Rookie of the Year honours. This is a great crop of rookies. Ehlers would be in the finalist group early on.

Mike Gillis sent his right hand man Gillman to scout Ehlers before Aquilini unceremoniously fired Gillis.

Linden hired Benning . Both were admirers of the Boston school of bigger is better . They chose Virtanen because he scored 45 goals and was a PPG in Calgary and was a local kid.

Linden in particular ignored the fact the Canucks best players in history are smaller 'Euro trash' wingers. Pavel Bure, Markus Naslund and of course Daniel Sedin along with his center twin Henrik.

Just curious, have anyone ever scored a hattrick in their 7th match or earlier of their rookie season in NHL ?

Nope, and still nope.

A reporter asked Ehlers if he'd ever had two great scoring chances at the end of a period (1st and 3rd last night) without scoring, and he said "Yes". He's a serious young player. He has mad skills, and great intensity. He's better than I expected him to be at this stage of the NHL season. He's creating chances consistently and getting better with each game. Based on his play so far, I don't think 20 goals and 50-60 points are out of the question for his rookie season.
