LW/RW Nikolaj Ehlers (2014, 9th, WPG) III

Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. Not sure I would put the steal label there yet as the top 10-14 of that draft is looking pretty deep. Great pick to be sure and he's doing great, but at the end of the day it could turn out that a lot of those picks are interchangeable, rather than many of them being vastly superior to another (which is sort of necessary for someone to be considered a steal at their pick). Not a knock on him at all, just nit picking I guess about labeling players a steal, especially top 10 picks. Excellent to get a player of that quality at 10th any way you look at it though.

Ehlers was drafted 9th by the way. Should have gone 6th or even 5th by some folks.

I do agree there is some real talent in that draft when many were not expecting it.

I burn some incense every night and let it waft in the direction of Vancouver, as thanks for Benning taking Virtanen.

He actually "should" have went higher. There were rumors that Florida was shopping the 1st overall pick in a sweetheart deal because they felt Ehlers was the most talented player available and they could have gotten him at 5.

Outside of Ekblad, Ehlers will be the best player of the draft. I'd take him over Reinhart, Bennett, Draisaitl, etc. in a heartbeat.

I agree (although I'm sure others will not).

IMO, it's Ekblad #1 and a toss up between Ehlers and Larkin for #2/#3

I think Ehlers will be one of the best offensive players of the draft, way too early to talk about overall players or anything like that.

God damn that shot though.

Not sure Ehlers will be a better overall player than Reinhart but he definitely has an higher offensive ceiling!

Ehlers went 9th because scouts only had one year to collect decent data of him. They have seen guys like Bennett and Reinhart at least three years.

It's bit same with Larkin, but USHL and USDP are still a lot more scouted league than Swiss Jr league or NLA. Scouts often focus maybe even too much to OHL, WHL and QMJHL leagues.

Just potted another. Walked off the wall and fired a shot that beat quick. Might of hit something but was still a great release.

Love love love this kid so far.

Also wired one of the crossbar in the first period. Kid's hit 5 posts so far this year to go along with his 4 goals. His release is filthy....

Like I said last week. This is going to be an exemplary winner of rookie of the year this season. In a normal season Ehlers would be one of the favorites. This year? He is just one of many terrific rookies.

NHL is so much more exciting with a bunch of rookies lighting it up.

Keep checking the scores and switching through all the games I have when the Jets are on break.

We had MONTHS of very heated debate on the Canucks site CDC regarding Ehlers v Nylander v Ritchie v Virtanen and who we should take at #6.

I was squarely in the Ehlers corner as were many others. He reminds me of a poor mans Pavel Bure in many ways. Same skating style, same shot and same FEISTY attitude. :handclap:

I liked Ehlers also.

I had him at 7 in my ranking. I didn't have Virtanen or Nylander in my top 10. Ritchie was 9 for me.

But I always had Ehlers as my top guy of the 4 that were linked closely in the 2014 draft discussion.

Great List !

Not so high on Fabbri due to his size. I know size is increasingly irrelevant for scorers but I didnt he could hack it. I am being proven wrong :amazed:

Here was my list

1) Ekblad
2) Reinhart
3) Draisaitl
4) Dal Colle
5) Ehlers
6) Nylander
7) Bennett
8) Ritchie
9) Fleury
10) Virtanen.

Thanks.

On that note, Fabbri just got back from his concussion last night. Hitchcock said. “He’s been a pretty consistent player. He’s a young guy, pretty dynamic. IMO Like Ehlers is. I had a hard time splitting them this particular draft. Both will be terrific players.

I think Ehlers' dynamic quickness and speed and shot set him apart offensively from Fabbri. Fabbri is stronger on the puck and is more tenacious.

I agree, they are different styles of players. But impact wise, I think they will be similar. Hitchcock has Fabbri playing on the 3rd line as a rookie with Gomez and Brouwer. I think he will rise to a top 6 role in the not too distant future.

Both Ehlers and Fabbri were knocked for their sizes their draft year. I did not see this being an issue.

Will probably be one of the finalists for the Calder.

The patrick Kane comparisons are starting to look like a reality.

Don't need any advanced stats......when watching Ehlers with the ole eyeballs.....this kid has "scorer" stamped on his forehead....
