No, he's a good prospect, you could make a legitimate case he's the 2nd best player from the 2014 draft or that he's 7th (can't convince me he's lower then that). Just was responding to the posters who originally complained that the list of the closest comparables (using era and age adjustments) to Ehlers saying it made the QMJHL look weaker to that of the OHL (list consisted of Hall, Stamkos, Tavares, Seguin, Strome, Brassard, Couturier, Huburdeau, Bobby Ryan) and that it was biased by ignoring Crosby and Giroux. What I have tried to point out is that is the list only showed closest comparables and wouldn't have Crosby for the Q (like Kane for the O and probably Gagne too) because their adjusted stats wouldn't be close (Crosby avg'd a full point more a game before any adjustments).

The reason I brought up Bouchard is because posters thought by not having Giroux listed it was belittling the Q (and therefore Ehlers). I was simply pointing out if you want to use Giroux as a comparable statistically you also would have to include Bouchard as their statistical profiles are nearly identical (after factoring in adjustments you would expect Bouchard to be higher). My main point was basically you can't just take the positives of Giroux and ignore Bouchard, even though Ehlers profiled better then both. I'm not making any judgement on any prospect in this case. Personally, I'm a little skeptical on guys from the Q, but that just might be an Ontario bias.

Im on an iPad, in the Dominican Rep. The connection is bad, so im not going to write a full reply.

Let's just Say I Can understand how you see it :)

Eh, I think he puts it right back down again as he approaches, but hopefully if he'd seen somebody else there he'd have kept his head up.

It's not jumping on him, it's noticing something in the video but hey ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Dude, come on! You know exactly what I mean and why I wrote what I did...

Leafs fans in here commenting on Ehlers, often in a not so flattering way seems, Well you know :)

You're telling me you don't notice the moment where Ehlers was in a dangerous spot? It gave me flashbacks of:

The initial regular speed video was misleading. I showed the stop-frame of the exact moment when he decided to keep going through the gap. He was looking straight at Pominville, and didn't have his head down. Your response is to show a replay of a hit by a defenseman (a Leaf, surprise, surprise) on a player who was in the "trolley tracks" looking at the puck and being harassed from behind. Seriously, trying to comment on another team's prospect based on a misinterpretation of the video of a single play seems a bit petty.

You often get that With small skilled players, I know Ehlers enough to Say im almost sure he knew what Was going on around him.

I would also Think Ehlers is more Aware than a player like Da Costa :)

But still, it's besides the point... Im asking why so many leafs are in a hurry to point out potential flaws in Ehlers game..

You might be innocent, and i might be wrong and an ass for saying it, but so many of your Bretheren are in a hurry to slam Ehlers anyway and where..

It's because he's such a talented and electrifying player that they wish they had drafted. :sarcasm:

To be fair, I'm not sure you know what he was thinking. Just about the same as me. I am pretty vocal when it comes to Ehlers vs. Nylander, but in this instance I wasn't intending to slam Ehlers. Just wanted to point out something I noticed!

Yeah, that really couldn't be further from the truth. I'm beyond ecstatic that the Leafs took Nyalnder over Ehlers :)

Not that many Jets fans that aren't happy with how things turned out. Both teams' fans should be ecstatic that the 'Nucks took Virtanen and the Canes took Fleury.

Ehlers and Nylander will be up against each other for the entirety of their careers I imagine. Who knows maybe the Jets and Leafs will have a good inter-conference rivalry built around the two of them because of each teams fans wanting to prove the other wrong. The Jets need some rivalry teams.

The Wild make the most sense, but chances are the old, bad blood of the West will seep back in. MTSC already chants 'B.C. Sucks!' whenever they play the Nucks, on account of the BC Lions, and Winnipeg got sorely beat on by a dominant Oilers team every time they made the playoffs in the 80s and early 90s. Then there's the cross check to Hawerchuk by Jamie Macoun of the Flames that rivals the high stick of 93 that the Leafs fans remember with venomous fervor.

Watching our games vs St. Louis last season I'd argue they're quickly becoming a hated rival within the division. Great games to watch though.

I would've been pissed if the Jets took Nylander....not because I think he's an inferior player, and he does have nice hair, but because "Nikolaj Ehlers" is a WAY cooler name than "William Nylander".:laugh:

But seriously though, you can't go wrong with either as a prospect.

Bill Ny the Hockey Guy?

Leafs fan here. Ehlers was the guy i wanted before the draft. Mostly because i hadnt seen much of Nylander play before that. Now that we have Nylander i am glad we took him over Ritchie and i think he will turn out to be fantastic player as will Ehlers. Both fan bases should be happy with their prospects.

If Nikolaj makes the team, he will most likely play with one of these pairings:

Perreault - Scheifele, both gifted offensively. Ehlers will have to be conscious about the breakouts though. He will need to hustle back.

Burmistrov - Lowry, both gifted defensively. This pairing would allow Ehlers to float a bit, these two would hold down the fort.

Either way, you can't go wrong.

I think Ehlers could play on any of our top 3 lines. I wouldn't be surprised to see him with Little and Ladd for some match-ups.

I could also see him on the left side with Scheifele and Wheeler. That’s a whole lot of speed on one line.

I agree. I'd like that combination. Here's a balanced top-9 I'd like to see sometime.

Ladd-Little-Burmistrov
Ehlers-Scheifele-Wheeler
Perreault-Lowry-Stafford

I have been wondering about at least trying Burmi on the first line, he has good hands and is decently smart. Would allow us to spread our scoring evenly through 3 different lines and let wheeler protect ehlers on that second line!
