Playing like a small playmaking winger isn't going to work at all in the NHL given he's a lumbering skater, which is a huge concern (could he even be average?).

I like his shot & playmaking skill but seems like a real project.
He’s a bit of a project for sure. But, in the right system I think he could be a solid player. I have him ranked 17 on my board right now because I love his potential.

Look at this shot by Musty. His release is fantastic. But, he takes a lot of poorly timed shots when there is a better play available. Before this goal, he took several shots when there was nothing there. If he is able to slow the game down a bit and enhance his decision making with the puck, he is going to be a force.

Ends the regular season with 26 goals, 52 assists and a 1.47 PPG.

I think his playoffs are going to be very important if he wants to go top 20. He needs to bring it big time.

I still would be surprised to see him crack that top 20. the tool-kit is certainly intriguing but it is after the 20s where you gamble on someone who shows questionable IQ and the need to refine that. Think Snuggerud last year, now it looks like Snuggerud is adapting his mental game but there's a lot who don't.

No doubting the tool kit, or high end skill set (shot, vision etc.) the silly and unforced turnovers need to stop.

Sudbury will be an interesting team to watch next year. Assuming they can somehow shore up the goaltending.

He's definitely going to have to learn to play more responsible hockey at the next level. I try not to hold that sort of stuff against prospects, but it's definitely a concern.

I am a fan of Quentin - I think he carries all of the skill to be a solid middle/top6 player. I think as he gets into an NHL teams development plan, his abilities will only show themselves better. I think he goes somewhere between 20 and 30 - although he could jump a few spots with a good playoff.

Will be interesting to see how they do vs. Peterborough, who seemingly went all in this year, yet struggled in the 2nd half.

Sudbury sold, though brought in a few small adds, and have performed better.

Most interesting of the 1st round series. Eastern Conference anyway.

I don't get this fascination about calling prospects ''lazy'', ''uninvolved'' and ''not smart''. Nobody gives a f about playing D in the CHL (and any other level of junior hockey for that matter). The only one who do so do it so they gain their coaches trust and gain a good reputation for pro level. The fact Musty is so good he can get away with playing relatively carefree hockey should be a plus, not a negative (even if it is counterintuitive). I'd rather have Musty work on his offensive shtick right now than trying when he's forced into a bottom 6 role in the pros. Plus he outPPG'ed a plus offensive prospect in his D+1 in Goyette, which says alot.

Well if Sprong was 6 foot twenty and had the skillset of Malkin, maybe.

Id use Joel Armia as a comparison, or Benoit Pouliot, but Im dating myself.
6 foot twenty, damn. Lol.

I just meant that they might have a hard time getting ice time from NHL coaches despite being really good offensive players. And might go later in the draft than they should due to that.

Yes theyre both uber skilled offensive forwards that dont have 100% effort all the time, Musty is tall and sometimes plays like he figured out a power game and youre like... this the next Lindros?

Sprong was always a small and soft unidimensional forward, even if I quite liked him at the draft.

Funny watching the hfboards experts criticize his skating yet somehow the kid is producing offense heavily. I mean I get it a little bit bc I still vomit in my mouth when I watch Jason Robertson skate but he is producing. Who cares where Musty is drafted. He will play in the NHL.

Snuggerud was always an extremely smart hockey player.

Not sure where that comes from. It's always been the best part of his game.

Why team USA didn't select him for the U18's?

Because the vast majority of the IIHF U18 team is the NTDP U18 team by default. They will occasionally add players from outside the program but not usually a lot and often times they're adding players for specific roles.

To add players, the NTDP has to 'demote' players, and while they do so, they don't add /demote all the guys they could. They're fairly loyal to the program guys, although not completely.

IMO they should have added Musty as there are a couple of forwards who are still passengers on the team. But I'd imagine they saw Musty as a purely offensive guy and they felt they didn't need more offense with Smith, Perreault, Leonard, Hagens, Moore, Eiserman already on the team. So they went with the more versatile add (Terrance) and kept the guys more suited for 4th line / PK roles (i.e., Guzzo, Slaggert).
