Weird how Laine hated the losing attitude in Columbus, but since his departure they’ve never done so much with so little. Hope they make the playoffs!

CBJ's success this year has absolutely nothing to do with Laine. Their success is very similar to Vegas's success in their inaugural year.

As for Laine, you're trying to say that our current losing streak is because of one player and yet, just before it, the team had a massive winning streak against some of the toughest teams in the league while having an insanely brutal travel schedule, but nobody was saying anything negative about Laine then.

It's almost as if that stretch of horrible travel and playing above their level took a lot out of them.

Laine wasn't a fast skater to begin with, he barely played for almost two years dealing with injuries, and it takes time to get back in to a shape where you can play consistently. I don't know about most Habs fans but I know I'm not worried about him, and I'm guessing the team isn't either.

As for the comment about stunting team development, that's the difference between the Habs and BJ's. With CBJ, he was asked to be THE guy. The top scorer (along with JG), and they had 0 support beyond those two.

Here, he's asked to be a complimentary player. The other issue is that he does need to play with productive and high skill players, and so far, that's not Kirby Dach,

I’m sure Hughes & Gorton were looking forward to a Monahan type transaction? Laine will require a good deal of kid gloves and at least a half season of consistent 1st line play before his value rises. He may not have that in him? If the front office doesn’t see potential & sees dissension in the ranks, they’ll let him go in the off season. Costly but with Demidov coming in they’ll need healthy examples of a pro. I hope he turns it around, cheers.

In your opinion Hutson isn’t a game changer. My opinion is different. I think Hutson definitely speeds up the rebuild. He’s too good to not do so. Laine, as a result, will be moved. And if that takes a first added, then it’s well worth it. Teams changing from the rebuild mentality of winning not being important to competing often change their HC at that point.

I did not say Hutson isn't a game changer. However, it is irrelevant to the state of the rebuild as the Habs still have glaring holes.

Paying a first to trade Laine and then spending more assets to replace him is a terrible plan. Montreal are not a contender next year, no matter what moves are made. There are very few scenarios where it makes sense to pay to trade Laine.

That is a general statement about coaching that doesn't make much sense when you actually consider reality. Hughes love what MSL has been doing. There is no indication the leash is tightening.

With all his flaws I would love to take him on an experiment contract with NJ. I would throw him with Hughes or Bratt, let them drive play and tell him just be ready to whip it. I just wouldn't want to experiment on this type of cap hit.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him moved for another bad contract, maybe a longer one for a player on a lower AAV.

He may be a bit problem player, but next year will be the most important one. I just hope he stays healthy and has a proper summer training., If he is like this even without injuries.. I don't see why many teams would want him.

Would be a shame if he woke up next season only to get a new contract to continue the suckage.

Next year is almost the most important one with Laine, sadly. Hope it’s true this time!

meh... not worried. we said the same thing about Josh Anderson last year and he's pretty good this year. The team is losing. Everybody sucks right now. We need to be in a winning environment and the players need to be playing for something. Now, it's all gone.

Next year will be the year. If he sucks then, so long goodbye. But there's no way we're paying just to get rid of him. We saw he can be a positive element on a winning team and that's what I'm waiting for.

doubt he has any value even when he was scoring for us it was all PP goals he was pretty useless 5v5 maybe next year at 50% if he has a decent year

So, we have left all hope of Dach becoming that 70 point beast of a centre…..I’m shocked. Amazing how far he has fallen. From the potential great 1a/b centre any second now, the AMAZING trade that put Hughes on a pedestal, to the reason Laine doesn’t produce. What a great dump by the Hawks.
