Weird stay of the day. This is the second goal of the tournament where Laine has scored with 3 seconds left in the game
It's only about under 2 months ago when he did the same thing in FEL playoffs 2 times. One goal at last second to tie the game, other was a last minute goal, I think it was a game tying goal as well.
He scored three last-minute goals against Kärpät to tie their respective games. In Games 5 and 6, he scored in the final minute of the third period; his Game 6 goal was scored with one second left on the clock.
He also scored a last-minute goal in the first period of Game 4, scoring with eight seconds left.
He sure can score those buzzer beaters. Against Germany and Slovakia, he scored goals with 4 seconds remaining in the third period.

I've never seen anything like it in such a short time span. Then remembering that the kid just turned 18.
I have a weird feeling Laine will decide that QF game. He just loves pressure.
Need to put this beautiful thing here before Russia crushes Norway.
Yeah I love it, Jets fans would be all over that if it ever caught on here. (Assuming we get him, that is).

Ok my favorite part is check out the video in the top right and start watching from the 50 second mark. Laine is cruising in late on the play and he is holding his still facing upright with with just his right hand like a briefcase or something?

Exactly how is Aho struggling right now? He has played well in almost every game, problem is he should be the playmaker on his line, but he has nobody, who could finish. And he was the best player in the WJCs
And Laine has not been set up properly? Only playing with Barkov, such a trashy player he has to play with.
Yeah, Aho's struggling quite a bit. Aho's been making quite a few bad to mediocre plays and he's playing the wrong spot on PP right now etc. He even got taken off the first line a few times. 1+3=4 playing on the first line as well as PP when your linemates are 4+3=7 and 2+6=8 = struggling to me.
Your second paragraph sounds like you haven't been watching the games. Barkov isn't the playmaker on PP. Laine plays the wrong wing 5 on 5. Barkov's very very rarely managed to set up a decent scoring chance for Laine in 5v5 that Laine didn't work a lot for himself by aggressively re-positioning. 5v5 that line honestly struggles a lot.
Actually both Aho and Laine has been struggling quite a bit recently. Difference is that Laine somehow still can produce mad points. Awesome.

As I said, Aho is a playmaker, he shouldn't be playing with MG and Koivu or Koskiranta and Pyörälä. And like you even said yourself his position on the PP is not his natural position, he should play where Koivu is playing right now. And do you think Jere Lehtinen struggled in the NHL just cause he scored 30 points less than Modano? Aho has made smart plays all the time defensively and some nice ones in the offensive zone. He had one bad game(can't remember against who), other than that he has been good, not excellent but good.
Yes, on the PP it's not Barkov giving the passes. The PP of Finland hasn't struggled so I don't see your point. The opponents are taking his shot away, so how do you want him to be set up properly? He needs to be in a position, where he can receive a pass for a one-timer and a way to the net. I don't understand, how you think this is the fault of the rest of team Finland.
On the 5v5, the ones losing the puck on the first line in the offensive zone are almost always Laine or Jokinen. Barkov keeps the plays alive and gives good passes and the other two fumble the puck away.
Additionally, if you watch the games you can see that Laine hasn't been as good along the boards as he was in Liiga, might be due to being tired from the long season. He tries to protect the puck by receiving a check, but then loses the pucks and this has happened on multiple occasions. Don't get me wrong he has been good, just not as good as people make him out to be. And also all the points have come against pretty bad competition, the only teams with a respectable lineup are Canada, Czech republic, Russia and maybe Sweden. Even team USA is pretty bad, and there he didn't score anything. I'm interested in seeing what he can do against Canada and the playoffs.
About, which wing JJ and Laine should play I don't know, but I doubt they haven't tried to play different wings in practice. Maybe the line would be even worse 5v5, if they changed sides.
In an earlier post you said you expect him to have multiple 50+ goal season and be a consistent 40-45 goal scorer in the NHL. I'm pretty sure he will never have 3*50G+ and 5-7 additional 40G+ seasons, he just doesn't have the ES goal scoring ability that would require. And referencing Ovechkins WCs numbers is plain stupid, as he plays an entirely different style. His game style is perfect for the NHL, his season before he came over 1 year after his draft, he scored 52 goals the season before he scored only 13 goals in 37 KHL games. Production in Europe gives only a tiny hint at what one can do in the NHL. Laine's style is less suitable for a small rink with less time, especially on ES. I could see Laine scoring 15+PPG and maybe add 15-25 Goals on ES. I think he'll be consistent around 35 goals a season goalscorer, with some 40+ goal seasons. However, if everything works out perfectly he may hit 50 a couple times, but that's his ultimate ceiling.

Or Ray Ferraro who sounds SO PISSED every time Laine gets a point. You can hear it from his voice/tone that he is so disappointed. And gets an orkasm every time Matthews does something good on ice.

Check out the video on TSN where their reporter is interviewing Babcock, it is really hard to tell if he is a sports reporter or Matthews personal agent, really trying all he can to sell in Matthews. This is really getting pathetic.
I guess you're just choosing to ignore the whole part where he's complimenting Laine?

Laine was struggling vs Hungary and USA and in this game vs Slovakia he was struggling in loose puck situations, otherwise his numbers are good. He was on ice for 2 goals other than his own I believe, again in both scenarios the puck never was sent to him and I'm not sure why that is.
Vs France he had a legitimately good game, though. And even this one wasn't as bad overall as vs USA and Hungary IMO.

I know, I have the pleasure of not having to listen to Mertaranta, but I have the displeasure of listening to Ferraro. He really sounds like an agent talking about HIS guy vs some A-hole who keeps raining on his parade constantly.
I get it, it's Toronto based media and they will make a broadcast that is geared towards their audience, and since Leafs have made it known Matthews is more than likely going to be their guy, of course his tires get pumped.
Just like Finns would do with Laine. But the bias is pretty one sided. I have watched Finnish analysis on Matthews and it's always high praise and not in the same annoyed "why can't this guy go away already, stealing all the thunder from my guy" tone that you can hear with Ferraro.
When they played their first games of the tournament they opened their hockey broadcast (don't remember if it was SC or something) with all kinds of Matthews hype and then after a long segment on him and his one point or something, they brought up Laine's 2+1 game briefly and that was about it.
They adopted the idea of Matthews as a Leaf and now that narrative is pushed to no end.
In Finland hardly anyone cares if Laine is #1 or #2. A lot of TML fans seem emotionally invested in Matthews. It's quite odd.
Emotionally invested and thinking he's actually the better player are two different things.
