Its funny how a lot of Leafs fans have entered this thread and said negative things in the last two weeks that weren't being said before by them.

Really noone had questioned his skating/acceleration and defensive ability up until 2 weeks ago? Colour me dubious on that front.:sarcasm:

Agreed.

His ceiling is to be a fantastic goalscorer, but things such as "generation's best goal scorer" or "greatest goal scorer of all time" is unreasonable right now.

He might get there, but it's setting him up to fail when people state it as a fact.

The guy could put 30 goals every year and people will think its a failure because he isn't putting up 40-50.

Exactly.

Well he's a center so he can at least assist down low with the defense in the defensive zone.

Sure he can help, like very good player, star player, franchise player, like possession beast player could also help.
But 1 player does not make the team, or if it does it's not going to end well.

And? Not sure what this has to do with Laine's skating/acceleration and defensive ability...and how its a new phenomenon invented by Leaf fans..

I was just making the point that Leaf fans should talk about Matthews and how he will be good for your team instead of trying to convince people that Laine isn't that good. People can criticize Laine, but my point was that a lot of posters that are recently criticizing Laine and appear to be Leaf fans weren't doing this two weeks ago.

That has nothing to do with the thread either. If all you got is some Finnish homer or Matthews homer bullcrap, move along. You're supposed to be discussing Laine here, not making fanbase generalizations and thread commentary.

Hope Laine just enjoys playing and don't try to force plays that much as previous games. Every move he does doesn't have to be highlight reel

There's nothing new at all in that video.

Everything from that two-minute package is taken from these two videos:

The audio, meanwhile, is ripped directly from the Sportsnet draft lottery interview with him.

And your point? Youtube videos are always rip offs from youtube videos, except some are ripped form TV. Artsy part is the editing pretty much.

Laine played great first period, did not force plays. He played puck deep many occasions on same kind of situations where earlier in tournament he would force play.

It's not really worth posting something that literally rips one minute out of a 17-minute video and one minute out of a six-minute video and then selling it as something worth watching, i.e., something "new." It doesn't add anything to our knowledge base, especially as none of the footage is new and there isn't nearly enough footage to make any sort of assessment of the player's game. What's a two-minute video going to teach anybody about Patrik Laine when there are so many more thorough, comprehensive videos to choose from that feature that footage and so much more?

It's like trying to review a song based on a five-second excerpt.

I dont get why people criticize Laine's skating. He was not a one step behind when he played with Pulju and Aho..

Big man with a long stride. Always the same whining. Goes fast, but people who don't understand hockey won't see the real speed.

Laine is also very agile at offensive zone plays when cycling the puck.

Laine looked so frustrated when they showed him sitting on the bench

Nowadays his anger against himself transfers nicely for goals. Just like today.

He was very pissed of about a missed glorious chance on the 1st period and what happens on the second? Goal and assist.
