Few points I see changing i this tornamet:

Laine was very active defensively today. From solid to top defensive game. And 1+1 points also.

1. I see his defensive sharpness developing in this tournament (maybe due to NT coaches).

2. He has used counter hit in the corners now many times, and is getting better at them. I'm pretty confident Barkov has taught it. He just has the puck, puts his back against the guy is trying to hit him and hits back, then starts skating again. Almost like Jagr always does.

Great game by him today.:yo:

His goal seem to have been designed in a lab to answer the haters- carried the puck from below the defensive blueline all the way into the offensive zone, made a nice pass on the offensive blueline, then outskated his man to get free and tuck it in on the backhand- all 5-on-5.:handclap:

Also liked the physicality, a couple of nice reverse hits. He will be a beast when he learns to use his body like that more often

Didn't he have some of those counter hits in Liiga too?

It's not really worth posting something that literally rips one minute out of a 17-minute video and one minute out of a six-minute video and then selling it as something worth watching, i.e., something "new." It doesn't add anything to our knowledge base, especially as none of the footage is new and there isn't nearly enough footage to make any sort of assessment of the player's game. What's a two-minute video going to teach anybody about Patrik Laine when there are so many more thorough, comprehensive videos to choose from that feature that footage and so much more?

It's like trying to review a song based on a five-second excerpt.

Youtube's main use is still to make artistic tributes ect more than informational videos. Or IDK. But definitely artistic use is big. If you take scenes from other videos and cut them yourself in your way, its good job. Yeah copying whole minute from another video and then minute from another sucks.

7 points away from Crosby's u19 record. Possible but not too likely.
2 points to tie Stamkos at 2nd.

How are these ages counted?

Stamkos was 19 year old + 3 months, when he scored 7+4=11p in 9 games.
Crosby was 18 year old + 8 months, when he scored 8+8=16p in 9 games.

Laine is now 18 year old + 1 month. 5+4=9p in 5 games. (possibly 5 games left)

I think it's birth year.

Like someone allready said, it's the birth year which counts. (As Finland had to pledge Laine a permission, not to wear full cage. As U-18 players need to wear it in WHC)

5+4 in 5 games is very impressive, Kovalchuk has played 11 times at whc and has put up 9 or more points only 3 times, Ovechkin 3/10.

I can still see many flaws in his game, he has awesome toolbox but he needs to learn to use those tools more effectively.

I thought Laine played his best game of the tournament tonight. Looked faster and generally had more energy. Didn't lose the puck a lot and looked like his confident self out there. And of course 1+1.

I've been praising his overall hockey IQ a lot, and i've said it before that he's far from a one-dimensional player. He's always been aware of what happens defensively but he doesn't have the power in his skating to sacrifice offense for defense. I've noticed he's often given up on defensive plays if he thinks it's not going to result in a goal so he gets a bit more breather for the next play that is possibly more dangerous.

I could see him becoming a very underrated player defensively in the NHL. People who don't watch him a lot will say he's one-dimensional, then the Jets fans respond saying that's BS

I agree. Other than one noticeable giveaway, he has been good defensively. Which is a common trait for Finnish trained players. They develop 200 ft players in their system. There is nothing to me to suggest that Laine will not be anything but a good 200 ft player.

Those free days really matter. No wonder he plays his best game after a 2-day break.

At Finnish playoffs, Laine was at his best at Kärpät series because Tappara did win Lukko only in 5 games and got a nice rest before the series. At final, he was early a bit exhausted, until there was an easy phase, only 1 game on 6 days, and then on last 3 games he was different man again.

His fitness just isn't there in this crazy game rhytm. Laine has already played 92 hockey games at this season and has had some injuries. The energy level just can't be there every night.

So Eklund is saying laine's stock is going thru the roof now and teams are calling... I'd potentially listen if I were chevy.. they have such unreal young pkayers already and if chevy can cash in huge to add alot more, then I'd listen

The Laine haters/Matthews lovers HATE seeing that

Que the "phfffff ya well that's eklund" type comments

Really doubt the Jets would consider trading the pick, unless maybe to move back to #3 if they see Puljujarvi as being a high impact player.

Laine is one point off the tournament lead. He's the youngest player in the tournament, only recently did he turn 18. If he continues on this 1.8 PPG pace, he's by far the highest ever for a U-18 in this tournament and he'd narrowly edge Crosby for highest PPG pace for a U-19 player. If he continues his 1.8 PPG pace, it'd be the third highest pace since the mid 1970's for a player of any age, and the two players ahead of him would be Malkin and Yzerman. What Laine is doing at this tournament is completely unprecedented for a draft eligible player, and its close to unprecedented for a player of any age since the 1970's.

I really want this guy in a jets jersey. I really do.

Agreed. If the Jets are fortunate enough to draft him, would love to see him start at 2LW alongside Bryan Little.

Little is such a responsible vet, so underrated, is creative and loves to unselfishly throw the puck to his line-mates.

Additionally, Winnipeg's PP has been awful. Laine could help quite a bit there.

The Jets' current colors are very similar to the colors on Team Finland's current international uniforms.

With how good Laine will be, he will never be a better overall player than Barkov. Hell, he may never even beat him in points-per-game, let alone playing Selke-calibur D at the C position. I do think Laine is a perfect complement to Barkov, however, and Finland is going to be an absolute monster in international play for a long time. I expect them to win Gold at a future Olympics sometime during the reign of Barkov, Laine, Puljujarvi, Ristolainen, Vatanen, Granlund, Koivu, Honka, Teravainen, Kapanen, Haula, Niederreiter, Maatta, Lehtera, etc.
