Team Canada came today to watch how good Patrik Laine is. That's what they focused today.

Turned on the game and saw the Finnish coach patting Laine on the head

I wonder what Laine did for Team Canada to be so obsessed with him. Seems like they care more about paying special attention to Laine than about winning

My thoughts exactly.

You could see a couple of instances where Laine was whacking people on the leg with his stick. Happened with Marchand twice and I think it happened with McDavid (can't see any other reason why McDavid would be so unusually hot under the collar).

Laine played great today, glad to see the knee injury wasn't too bad.

Lol like those players would be agressive anti laine posters in HF vs topic back in time when it was open.

He's a bit raw still, obviously. But there's absolutely no doubt he'll be a great player and goal scorer. Movement and decision making are what he needs to improve the most.

Laine was being marked really badly in this game and yet he managed to generate great opportunities. Another similarity with Ovechkin, this kid is going to be a stud

First it was "He plays with good line mates" Laine knocked it down by outscoring his linemates
Then it was "Can't play 5-on-5" Laine knocked that down putting up a bunch of ES points.
Then it was (and my personal favorite) "He is built to dominate against weaker teams" Laine goes out and playes well against Canada with 3-4 SoG and a few scoring chances.

I wonder what the new narrative against him will be, my guess "Can't handle NHL physicality" :sarcasm:

Anyways in all seriousness I am glad he didn't back down when being obviously targeted, a lot of kids would just turtle and check out of the game after being the center of attention of the other side.

He had one shot on goal...

Before todays game i had my doubts whether Laine is NHL ready.

I dont have those doubts anymore.

Me neither. He showed up big time today. He made no mistakes that he could not recover, and was all around one of the best if not the best on the ice with all the chances he created and the ones he was open for. It was an amazing performance by an 18 year old. I really thought he'd be one of our weaker links in this game against some of the best talent in the world, but he was as stellar as they come. Haven't seen that maturity level from anyone except Barkov at that age.

I was impressed. No doubts what so ever for adapting to NHL.

Also have to give a shoutout to Aho, he was so much better and safer today than he has been against the weaker teams. Elevated his game to a different level.

To be honest he did get muscled off of the puck quite a bit I noticed. He'll get better at that though, and he is playing against men. When he has his feet moving he's a lot better at protecting the puck with his frame and reach, but when he's slower or standing still in a scrum he can get bodied off of the puck pretty easily.

Laine looked good, created a couple chances in the game with takeaways, didn't make as many mistakes and even hit people today. Zero points but great effort.
