I dont think that anyone is using it as an excuse to prove well.. anything.
I think it shows that he have a pretty good condition for bigger fella.

Maybe for his size and age he has at last somehow ok conditioning and stamina. But I still see his conditioning and stamina as one of his weaknesses. He obviously has problems with back to back games that are played without a resting day in between. His play looked difficult and tired in those games in regular season and playoffs in FEL. He didn't also get usually point production in those games.

But this is definitely something that can be made better with some good training. Would be definitely important to improve it for playing in the NHL.

People need to realize that shooting the puck to the radar with all the time and space is no indicator of one's shooting ability in games.

Laine has vastly superior shooting arsenal/abilities compared to Pulju. But I agree, Pulju is still a bit of a question mark and can end up being best player from this draft. He's still so raw.

Yea definitely, I'm not suggesting Pulju has the same sniping potential because of how hard he can shoot.

Interested on how the Finnish coach will deploy Laine in the Hungary game TOI wise. He has been averaging 13, 14, 13 mins a game. Would have to think this will climb starting today.

So one would think but I wouldn't get my hopes up. This should be an easy win, but the opposition hasn't been a factor so far regarding the TOI and in the last game he got benched. Seems almost like KJ doesn't know how to play him, apart from the PP. Laine not getting the minutes makes it harder for him to get into the groove.

This is a lot easier game than say Germany, where Germany beat Slovakia 5-1 yesterday. This is why I am hoping Laine will be freed this game. We are getting close to the medal round, where I believe Finland will need him if they are to win the gold this WHC.

Barkov isn't playing much more either, i think Koivu wants his minutes and it's out of Barkov's time, don't like to be 2nd, even if he should be.

I'm not sure if Koivu is the guy who's going to demand ice time. He seems like a super professional guy who does what is expected from him. I might be wrong, but somehow I just always got the impression of him that he is stone cold pro who just works his ass off no matter what. Humbly.

But yeah, I really don't get why Barkov is getting so little ice time. He's probably our best player and should be on the ice more often than not.

I actually think that Koivu does have a pretty big authority in Finnish NT.

Either way, I think it's a question of coaching, I feel like Jalonen doesn't have the whole picture figured out. For some reason he doesn't see Barkov as the best and most important center of the team, although it's obvious for the majority of us. Therefore he plays the lines in a strange way.

Koivu may be a stone cold pro but he's also very confident in his skills and knows his worth. He probably believes that he's the best finnish center and that the no. 1 guy spot still belongs to him.

Still, i can't understand why Barkov is being so underutilized. He's THE guy you want in tough situations. He's the guy you want on the ice when your team is struggling because he only makes the correct decisions on the ice. If they give the line sheltered minutes because of Laine then frankly Laine shouldn't be playing on that line.

Maybe Jalonen is so old school that he views Barkov as a junior, who is lower on thedepth chart. J needs to open his eyes, Barkov is our best player clearly.

Koivu definitely has a lot of power in NT. I think only his big brother has ever had more power as a player.

I just meant that Koivu strikes me as a guy who doesn't complain or second guess authorities. I'm basing this completely on the articles I've read and the feeling I have in my ass. So I might just as well be wrong.

Obviously Jalonen is a good coach and us second guessing him might be childish. But I really don't see why he doesn't play Barkov more. For all purposes, Barkov is the very least Koivu's equal in all aspects of the game. If he trusts Koivu more when protecting the lead, that's understandable. But for the most part, Barkov should be playing as our #1C. At this point, I really don't see a single aspect where I think Koivu provides more to the ice sans faceoffs.

Barkov is better offensively, the very least similar defensively, stronger, more creative. Barkov really should play more.

Koivu has had lots of influence in Minnesota too. I've read from somewhere that Koivu was the only reason Miettinen played as long as he did and as a first liner only because Koivu wanted him on his wing.

Seems like Koivu has lots natural authority in him.

So far Laine has played against Belarus, Germany and US. All things considered 2 are really weak teams and 1 is a mediocre team this year.

I would like to see him against tough teams with more NHLers to see how he performs. Sweden, Russia or Canada, I think he can elevate his game if he faces tougher competition

The thing is he is getting 3rd line minutes in 5v5 and on right side when he excells on left. But I also want to see him more and expecting it to happen.

I think it's fair to say 1 weak team excluding Hungary today. Germany are not as bad as people think they are. All teams have a Mish mash of weak/stronger teams in the non elimination stage. Laine has always raised his game when they are important. We will see if he is given ice time to do so as we go further in medal rd.

Protect the gem from injuries IMO. Screw the points. He needs to be healthy deciding that first playoff game and no point in risking it against these teams that are below Finland in skill and have to do slashing and all kinds of dirty stuff.

Laine really plays with confidence right now, If he would have had more luck he could have had like 4+1 or something, But he just dont get the goals right now like he use to

He is also doing a lot of work on power play trying to get open, played about 90 seconds on last power play.

whoever drafts this kid is extremely fortunate. Looks like he's going to Winnipeg... but hey.... you guys get another scoring Fin to hopefully jump start that franchise to bright future.

Laine has definitely lost some of the fire he had in Liiga finals. He's shying away from board battles and looking very tentative at times. That game against Hungary was the first time i've been a bit frustrated with him.

Doesn't have the same kind of confidence in his shot either. Sure he's scored some PP goals in this tournament, but he's had numerous chances 5 on 5 that he normally capitalizes on or at least hits the crossbar/post.

It's been a long season and for a kid that's taken huge leaps during the season, i think all of this is understandable. I wouldn't be surprised if he just can't regain that same magic against tougher teams going forward, considering all the pressure and expectations from the media.

But then again, it's Patrik Laine after all. He likes to prove people wrong and maybe he does it one more time in this tournament, scoring a GWG in an elimination game or something along those lines.
