He looked like completely gassed out. Had no energy to skate in the 3rd period and OT.

Scheifele was very tired too, falling over all the time. Both had similar accidental tripping penalties too.

Yeah, they need to rest, Laine didn´t really have any chances to do anything in o-zone, i wonder what Scheifeles advanced stats looked like this game, felt like he lost the puck so many times, Laine a few times, Dano too. Why Dano was there i have no idea.

Jets played 3rd period with 3 lines. No wonder top guys were super gassed.

I just got home in time to see the Shootout goal by him. Did he look gassed this game too ?

I only watched the 3rd period and overtime+shootout but the whole team looked gassed because of this ridiculous schedule we have for the first half of the season. Team has had a back to back each week for the past 3 weeks and no 2 days off during this time, and we have another one next week. Idk where to find the info but we've probably traveled more than most teams so far too.

They looked like a team that could use some rest, damm were they gassed.

I have no idea why Maurice took Ehlers away from that line and put Dano there, all of had awfull games.
They had simply nothing going on.
Laine-Ehlers just has chemistry, and Scheifele is a perfect C for them.

Nice to agree with you for a change. It was definitely exactly how you put it there. In fact absolutely zero amount of chemistry between Dano and the two big guys. Absolutely zero.

Ye should hve added that both of them looked off.

Ehlers was probably put in the second line to try making it more competetive.

@ Booster. Lol a shotout goal doesnt change his preformance during the actual game. A very neat goal tho.

In fact Aho was the most important player in that line. He had more points than Laine and scored extremely crucial goals as well. And most importantly he was the defensive force in that line which gave Laine and Pulju much more space to play the great offensive style that they did so efficiently. And still Aho managed to be also a key player offensively. Each of them were definitely very important but if any one of those three had to be chosen as the most important player, I would claim that it was Aho.

Don't know how I forgot about aho.. Either way my point still stands that Laine wasn't the sole reason why finland won the wjc last year.

PauMau split them up because the ESL line was getting shut down hard by the Duchene line in the Avs game, so he put Ehlers with Wheeler and Petan to spread some of the attack around.

Interesting goal. I chalk up it up to instincts. You Just can't teach this. Most players go into shootout with a preconceived plan, one they rarely deviate from. Laine on the otherhand looked like he wanted to shoot, it wasn't there, reacted to what he saw, made an adjustment, and took what the Goalie gave him.

Nah, he used the exact same move multiple times last year. Still impressive.

Looked ok from what I saw in the first, but for the most part yeah. I think playing with another speedy winger would help open up space for him. The last two games I've seen he hasn't had a lot of space to work out there, looks like teams are trying to play him tighter.

If I am correct I recall his move is backhand to forehand side. Rather than forehand to backhand side. But agree it was impressive either way. I still say I would not be surprised he recognizes when a goalie is out cutting the angle respecting his shot, when a Goalie is moving he is more apt to be deked. Either way Laine is going to be hard to be stopped on breakaways or shootouts. You either have to come out to the top of outside the crease or he will snipe you, which will leave a Goalie vulnerable moving back to be deked. Pick your poison huh?

Looks much better from the other angle.

I am just going to say it. And I am going to paraphrase this as STYLISTICALLY. And not comparing players.

I was curious if my memory was right. So I looked up some videos. When Laine dekes it is usually to his forehand side. Next thing I wanted to see, is compare his breakaways to Mario Lemieux's.

Mario Lemieux was absolutely the best on breakaways I have seen in my life, Mike Bossy would be 2nd.

But if one watches Laine on breakaways, there is a similarity in styles to how Mario used to look on breakaways.

A couple of stickhandles, drive to the backhand side and make the goalie think you'll roof it, instead bring it back to the forehand and 5-hole it. It doesn't really matter that much, but here is an example of him executing it anyway.

Agreed it doesn't matter. My original point was. When you are a Goalie, and you see Laine coming in on a breakaway. You have to respect shot. If you do not come out to cut the angle, he will pick you to pieces. His shot, release, and accuracy is just too good.

That really leaves a Goalie vulnerable to be deked. When a Goalie is moving, they are Swiss Cheese. So if I am Laine. The only plan I have is, if Goalie is out too much cutting the angle, I am more apt to deke. If they are deep enough in the crease to be beaten by a shot, I shoot because I know they can't stop my shot.
