Connor has excellent speed and quickness, and his ability to read plays allows him to literally blow past defenders before they can react. He can accelerate with the best of them, and can shift into high gear if he see’s the defender’s gap is vulnerable. Connor has victimized a lot of defensemen with his skating, much like the aforementioned Larkin. But he’s also a finisher who can sneak into scoring areas and unload an excellent and quite deceptive shot.

In case any are interested, I have made several videos on prospects from the 2015 draft. Some with commentary, some without.

Just as a precaution, I make these videos to give you an idea of his style of play during a regular game. No highlights. No biases. Just a clean, objective look. I don't even use music, because that can sometimes hype up a player. With that in mind, it might be a bit boring. I care more about content than creativity.

I also caution people not to read too much into the videos. This is one game, and so it's one day at work for a kid.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy!

He'll probably be the 1C for Michigan now. Talk about stepping right in.

He'll have to take it from Nieves who'll be a senior. Unless Berenson wants Nieves at wing.

Plus Marody is inbound as well. But you never know. I think he's better suited for the wing.

I love your vids, could you do more on guys rated to go in the second round?

On a complete sidenote for some reason I see this guy being the Kings pick at 13th(unless he is picked before then). He just seems to have a kings vibe to him

I am hoping that he falls to the Flames at 15, but I have the same feeling. Just seems like he's right up their alley.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy them. Right now I'm working on Zboril. Merckley is next, then I think Dunn? My list is 7 names long and I don't have it immediately handy. Either way, I have enough names which will keep me busy till the draft.

After the draft, I may just do a video or two on a random prospect for teams who didn't draft any of the players I did a video on (like Pittsburgh, who doesn't have a first and picks later). That way every team's fanbase gets at least one video on one of their prospects drafted. It's dependent on available footage, of course :)

Anyway, that's the goal.

Thank you again for the kind words.

I'm trying to learn more about this guy but everyone is glowing about him--having a hard time finding knocks against him. What's the catch?

Pretty much nothing. He played in the USHL. That's about the only reason why there's 0 hype.

I'd suspect NHL scouts are higher on him than the average fan/faux scout on HFboards is.

He and Provorov are at the top of my wishlist for the Flyers at #7.

The USHL can be a hard league to put up high scoring numbers. I've heard that some scouts beleive he would be a 100 PT player if he played CHL hockey.

I also have Him and Provorov at the top of my list for the Sharks at #9.

Provorov will likely be gone but there's a good chance Connor and or Zacha will be available

Yeah, I figured the league was a question (not because it's bad--but how does it translate) but hard to hold that against him considering who he is surrounded by, too. But he seems to have put up numbers with and against better competition in tourneys though. I was just kinda curious because Trevor Lewis put up 75 points in the same league (albeit with Okposo), and practically no one is mentioning any of this kids weaknesses. The worst I've read is "needs to get stronger." All the reports read like a 3-5 pick this year, so why do people rank him lower, you know?

its mostly due to the strength of the draft, if im not mistaken this was his 3rd year in the league and for a player of his caliber its expected that he'd put up good numbers (it usually takes 1 season before you fully adapt to a league). in general its a bit harder to evaluate USHL players because the competition theyre playing against is less known (theres basically just a lack of general information on the league), which is why USHL players tend to not get picked very high in general.

i thought Boeser and Novak played better than him at the U19's but he still played well, he was noticeable whenever he was on the ice. in any case i have him as a top 10 pick, like i mentioned the draft is too deep to have him go ahead of guys like Provorov/Barzal/Werenski/Zacha but i like him more than Crouse and Rantanen tho.

Why didn't Connor make the World Junior team last year? He is a 96. This would be his only year to go.

Just discovered your videos, it's nice to be able to put all the scouting reports I read into a tangible visual. Thanks for the effort you put into all of them! I plan to watch them all before the draft.

I'm glad you are able to make use of them! FWIW, I just posted Brock Boeser and Zachary Senyshyn the past couple days, and am working on Guryanov (probably will be done by this weekend). I hope you enjoy :)

Dude, your videos are revolutionary. Thanks!

Craig Button's final list has him ranked at 6, which in a draft with no McDavid/Eichel, is a 3-5 just like you said.

Just in case some can't find highlights of him, here is a video (even though I know most people can find this one).

I would be happy with that selection if it happened for us. He is right behind Rantanen as far as my preference for where we pick, if no one falls.

Thanks everyone!

That's kind of what I figured, I guess I was more saying it seems like people have lots of good to say about him but almost no bad. I was curious if it was because people don't know what the bad IS, if they don't know much about him, or if there's actually just no real weaknesses to his game. Only thing I come upon is strength.

its mostly due to the strength of the draft, if im not mistaken this was his 3rd year in the league and for a player of his caliber its expected that he'd put up good numbers (it usually takes 1 season before you fully adapt to a league). in general its a bit harder to evaluate USHL players because the competition theyre playing against is less known (theres basically just a lack of general information on the league), which is why USHL players tend to not get picked very high in general.

That's also why I was asking about the league. Someone else had agreed with you that he looked good with and against better competition in tourneys but personally I'm a bit wary of guys who are just beating up on lesser competition--and I'm not necessarily saying the USHL IS that, just that it's kind of an unknown quantity (at least publicly!) compared to others, but I'm just trying to learn more through being skeptical that a guy murdering the USHL has no weaknesses.
