connor and michigan are just too good this year. holding them under 5 goals in a game is an achievement. if they get any kind of decent goaltending in the tournament they have a great chance of being national champs.

That's a pretty big overstatement. They're averaging under 5 goals a game. Don't get me wrong, they have a really strong offense, but they haven't been tested much. I wouldn't bet on them winning the championship, though they certainly are capable.

You guys are talking about NHLe and projection/comparable tool. What's that?

NHLe is a metric that compares a player's production in a league to what that production should translate into when it comes to playing in the NHL. It takes into account the strength of the opposition as well.

So if you've ever asked "Well he got 100 pts in junior but how does that translate to the NHL?", NHLe provides a good (but not perfect) comparison.

Want to make a bet?

Nope. I won't be shocked if he signs with the Jets for next season, but also could see him going back for another year of college. My view is that he is unlikely to make the transition to the NHL as successfully as Larkin or Ehlers did in their d+2 season.

Still, I think he's a brilliant talent and would be very happy if he was on the Jets' roster next season.

If we brought Ehlers in we can bring Connor in. Same strengths and weaknesses between them both.

I think Ehlers' development was ahead of Connor after their d+1 season. But I'd be happy to be wrong.

Interesting Whileee why don't you think he can transition as well as Ehlers?

He might have meant in conference play, averaging 5.32 gpg. Overall they average 4.79 per game.

Yeah but he said holding them under 5 goals a game is an achievement, not that they average 5 goals a game. I wouldn't describe it as an achievement so much as a failure if you don't. To win it all they'll have to be able to either win lower scoring games or produce offensively against better defensive competition than they've seen much of the season. Not saying they can't or won't win the tourney, but there's a reason they're #6 or worse in every ranking I've seen despite gaudy offensive production.

I agree. They can leave a lot to be desired defensively, and it will definitely be harder to score. If the opposition has a mobile defensive core that can help neautralize Michigans speed, it is a problem. When Big Blue's offense isn't running right, that is a huge cause.

I just think that Ehlers still has more quickness and urgency in his game, and a bit of an overall higher skill-set. I just think it will take Connor a bit longer to adjust to the quickness and physicality of the NHL game. Ehlers has a natural aggressiveness and confidence that seems to be at a higher level than Connor at the same stage.

I just see Conner as that player who, as soon as is Draft+1 year starts, his stock SKY ROCKETS (See: Dylan Larkin, Pastrnak from this past draft).

There will be teams from 10-15, maybe even 7 or 8 - 15 who will be kicking themselves.

absolutely love this. this post was a few months prior to draft.

so spot on been saying the same damn thing the past year plus.

I think he has the quickness. He may not be a dipsy doodler like Ehlers but he's already a little bit bigger than Ehlers is now. His speed is right up there with Ehlers. He has that quick first step to not only separate himself from the opposition but also to avoid contact when necessary.
Sure he's likely going to take a few hits, so did Ehlers. So does everyone.

The nice thing about Connor is that he's not just about his top speed and acceleration. He's also pretty shifty and can create separation with it, as someone else said in this topic. Look at his pivot on setting up his own PPG last night. He played a give and go with the player at the point, started skating down the half-wall, then immediately pivoted to toss a pass back up to the blue line. Then there's his speed when coming off the half-wall on his first goal of the night. He beat out 2 defenders and a forward for a HQSC.

As long as you are predicting the future may I have the winning lotto numbers please?

I loved your post about Connors higher gear, it is something I forgot to mention. When Connor lowers his stance and starts churning his feet it is a thing of beauty. Reminds me of Malkin when he does it. Last night only one time sticks out, don't remember which period, he started a rush through the neutral zone and into the offensive zone, and I said aloud that now he is getting it going. When he really moves his legs he is incredibly hard to stop.

connor just strikes you as a player that will succeed no matter what. dont know what it its but its similar to larkin and gaudreau and ehlers etc.

just that attitude. super smart kid

he will be with the jets guaranteed come next year

Connor just scored his 2nd on the PP, received an awesome pass from Werenski and almost automatically released a laser. Accuracy of a wrist shot with the quickness of a snap shot.

Did somebody publish why he shouldn't be, or did you mean he is the favorite? What he is doing right now is unreal and he will get that award.
Not a close follower of College hockey, but wouldn't Demko be giving him some tough competition?
