Did somebody publish why he shouldn't be, or did you mean he is the favorite? What he is doing right now is unreal and he will get that award.

It was a rhetorical question, and there was some confusion on the Jets board about the Hobey Baker award and the fan voting process. There was some belief that the fan voting would be instrumental in determining the 10-player short list, and Connor wasn't in the top 10 fan voted players.

Not a close follower of College hockey, but wouldn't Demko be giving him some tough competition?

If Hellebuyck doesn't win in either of his seasons, both of which were better than Demko's season this year and one of which not having anyone close to the season that Connor is having this year, I can't imagine Demko has much of a chance.

just happy that the Hobey Baker is starting to go to legit NHLers and not a bunch of ham and eggers that it has gone too most times in the past 25 years.

Gaudreau then Eichel then Connor is as good as it gets for me.

Demko has played more games though. Only 5 or 6 more during the season Helle posted his lower totals near Demkos. Wasn't even in the top 5 I think.

This is true. It is exceedingly rare for the Hobey Baker to go to a goalie though. I wouldn't be able to wrap my head around a .952sv% Hellebuyck losing to a 1.19 PPG Drew LaBlanc while a sub .940sv% Demko beats a ~1.80 PPG Connor. Even in his second year Hellebuyck posted a .942sv% over 29 games and wasn't even in the top 10.

Pardoning my ignorance, but what is Connor's bottom and top end on Games Remaining? I don't understand how NCAA works.

Their regular season is done, and due to their positioning in the B1G conference, have earned a bye through the first round of the conference playoffs. I'm not sure if they're single elimination games or not (I think they are), so he has at the very least one more game to play.

So it is single elimination, ok. Max 4 or 6 games? Is seems reasonable he can beat Vanek, would he have to turn in a few superstar performances to hit 35?

Found this on the Jets' board. Extremely fast, makes really good passes, and has a really good shot.

Some things that stand out to me that he needs to improve on are:
  • Get better defensively (he's pretty weak at skating backwards and his decision making could be better)
  • Get better at board battles (this should improve as he gets stronger and should also improve his defensive play)
  • Less turnovers (a few times he had the puck one on one entering the zone and he tried to be too fancy and ended up giving easy turnovers by deking into the defender. He needs to keep it simple and do a better job protecting the puck and maybe opt to drive to the outside then cut in)

Overall very impressed with his showing as a freshman and I think a lot of his weaknesses will get better as he gets stronger and bulks up. Offensively, I think he's NHL ready, but he definitely needs to bear down more on defense.

B1G is a single-elimination conference tourney, so with a QF bye, either one or two games there for Michigan. Plus, a max of four single-elimination NCAA tournament games in a field of 16. Thus, a minimum of two and a max of six.

I feel I should note that Michigan has only played one team (BU) that's locked into a tournament bid at the moment and split that series (3-2L, 4-2W, Connor 1A). Michigan looks like a two-seed as it stands now and three-seeds look like BU, Harvard, Notre Dame, Yale. Competition strength is going to raise there a bit versus what they've generally played, with better balanced and defensive teams, yet if the right team/players gets hot, it's still single-elimination.

Connor has been doing this for years. I have been talking about this kid since I can remember. He really hasn't changed much since his Belle Tire days in Michigan.

The only knock on him I have ever had as that at times he looked disinterested out there and that he had this other gear he could go to when he wanted to..he just made things look so easy that you always wanted more and felt he could do more.

after watching him this year at Michigan that is completely gone as he is a three zone player that doesn't take a shift off, float out there, or purely rely on his skill. he makes and creates offense out there. players like this transition to the NHL very smoothly.

I was floored he fell to where he did in the draft, I had him well inside my top 10, but players coming out of the USHL don't always get the recognition they deserve.

I wouldn't be shocked one bit if the asking price for Andrew Ladd involved Chevy wanting to get Tyler Motte from the Hawks in that trade. It would make so much sense for Chevy to want to get Motte and have him in the system with Connor to continue the insane chemistry they have. As a Hawks fan very happy we kept Motte as he will be a NHLer very soon.

Kyle "The Terminator" Connor is set to destroy the NHL very soon. He will not be back at Michigan next year just like Larkin did this season. I can't wait to see this kid at the next level and possible Rookie of the Year honors if given a legit top 6 chance.

Apparently it was TT, and they countered Dano.

Nope. I won't be shocked if he signs with the Jets for next season, but also could see him going back for another year of college. My view is that he is unlikely to make the transition to the NHL as successfully as Larkin or Ehlers did in their d+2 season.

Still, I think he's a brilliant talent and would be very happy if he was on the Jets' roster next season.

I cannot see him going back. And that's not just by numbers or my opinion of him.

I was at the UM game tonight and Connor was pretty impressive. His PP game is excellent; good stick handling and a great shot. However, I was most impressed by him forcing a couple of turnovers on the forecheck; it wasn't something I was expecting from their leading scorer.

NHLe is a metric that compares a player's production in a league to what that production should translate into when it comes to playing in the NHL. It takes into account the strength of the opposition as well.

So if you've ever asked "Well he got 100 pts in junior but how does that translate to the NHL?", NHLe provides a good (but not perfect) comparison.

So is it an actual website then?

From where we are today, and considering where those picked above him are in their development, how many teams passed on this guy on draft day? Does that even make sense?

Restated, if the draft were held today, where would Connor likely be picked?

Connor is absolutely unreal. 61 points in 34 games NCAA, 1.79 ppg (better ppg than Eichel rookie season, way more goals).

If I was a GM I would take Connor over Strome or Marner or any other forward after McDavid and Eichel.

He would go in the top 5. It would just depend on how much teams value defensemen because Hannifin, Werenski and Provorov have had good years.
