Why would Vesey accept a trade when he can choose where he wants to go?

What's the incentive?

They trade his rights, Vesey is not require to sign with the team that trade for it. Beside, I don't think any team would trade for his rights since he pretty much can choose where he wants to go on 8/15. Team can wait to pursue him then and not lose an asset.

Players do not accept trades. Vesey would have no choice if his rights were traded.

He would only have to make a decision on whether he accepted a contract from the team that trades for him.

Well, maybe Boston thinks Vesey might sign with them, but don't want him to reach free agency, in case all the Toronto rumours are true. So, they might trade a pick or prospect for the right to at least have that discussion (above board, we all know that pending free agents agents must be talking to teams) or to get an exclusive time to prove themselves worthy.

The Preds might be very likely to accept an offer, since at this point it would be a replacement of an asset leaving for nothing.

With Boston missing the playoffs and Claude Julien probably losing his job, I think Boston's offseason up until August will have a huge impact on if they have a chance with Vesey.

With his fathers comments, I'm pretty sure the chances of him going home are a lot less than what was reported a couple weeks ago.

probably drawing up the contract with toronto right now

If Vesey wants to come to the Leafs, no chance anyone in Leafs management vetos that move. No way to prove any sort of tampering occurred, and even if it was somehow proven, the consequence would be much less than what the Leafs would be getting in Vesey.

1st round pick(s) punishment would be my guess of it was proven.

Well this is exactly what I meant. He would still hold all the cards

Those comments by his dad are really quite pathetic. I'm cheering for him to come to the Blue and White, but frankly this entire thing is giving me a gross feeling.

I really hope Shanny didn't strong arm anyone here... We should be better than that.

EDIT: Also worth noting, he probably doesn't even make the Leafs out of camp next year..

Yeah I doubt that.

Still dont understand how he won the hobey baker

The voters obviously held him in high regard. Let's not forget that the team he played on was much worse than Connor or Demko. I am guessing that held some sway with voters. In any case I wonder how many people complaining about it have actually been watched enough of both players this year. Just saying... maybe box score scouting maybe the reason why you don't understand.

Perhaps you do not understand "Harder to score in the ECAC than in the Big Ten". Big Ten teams give up 38% more goals than ECAC teams. Hence, while 1.87 ppg is outstanding, I'd take 1.39 playing in the ECAC.

Of course not. But the Leafs don't have to disclose what they're paying his father. A couple mil might grease the wheels a little don't you think? Hunter's agents landed the Leafs Sosh and Zaitsev, this is probably the same sort of operation. Vesey may well have been a done deal since this last summer.

Of course they made a back room deal.

It's what Lou and the Hunter's are known for.

If you ain't cheatin, you ain't tryin. :yo:

People are also way wrong if they assume the Hobey is all about stats.

Never have been just about stats.

Julien stays and I think a free agent LW has a good chance of making the Bruins 3rd or 4th line.

Since he can't sign until Aug. 15th, it's going to be a LONG summer of Jimmy Vesey speculation.

As such, I vow to avoid all Jimmy Vesey threads until August 1st at the earliest (from here on out) - if something big happens, tsn will report it, and I'll see it there. I'll also try to avoid tsn's mostly baseless speculation, as it's clear they have no "inside" information when it comes to Vesey (see: Dreger strongly believing Vesey would sign in Nashville). For all of our collective sanity, I suggest others do the same.

We got awhile to wait, still hope Leafs land him but I could see him avoiding us due to the depth we have on the wings unless we start clearing some bodies out, especially if Nylander is playing the wing next year.

Whatever team he's going to he will make the roster out of camp.

He was going straight in the top 6 of a playoff team according to Nashville's GM.
