Their development route is nothing for the impatient prospects though (like Dick Axelsson). I mean Jakub Kindl is a pretty good player and now 6 years after his draft he is entering his first full season. But he is still being rushed compared to Jonathan Ericsson that had to wait 7 years before being a regular. Tomas Kopecky had to wait about 7-8 years before being a regular too.

Nyquist might still got a lot of AHL seasoning ahead of him before he gets a shot. To bad since he was very fun to wtach in the preseason.

Nyquist has the skills. I think he's mainly in the AHL to build toughness/endure the grind. It's a really long conditioning stint, in other words.

One of Babcock or Holland said if he continues this play than his stay in the AHL will be short, he also said theyre going to see how things go with the NHL team

Reading between the lines I took that as if Hudler doesnt step up Nyquist is taking his spot in the top 6.

Watched the griffins play the marlies last night and Nyquist was absolutely dominant.

He made other high end prospects like Tatar and Colborne look non existant out there.

He has 3 points i 2 games but made some crazy passes last night that didnt get buried cause it almost looked like the other players were expecting them.

He at times looked like he was toying with people out there and was way too good for the AHL, he hasnt even had an adjustment period to pro hockey yet either.

This kid is the real deal

He's been one of my favorite prospects for a while. What you described there is more or less what he was doing at Maine on a regular basis.

Gustav is doing way better than I thought starting in the pre-season. I didn't think he was even a legit top six potential going into this off-season lol.

Agreed, and this photo sums it up for mine:

On certain shifts it did look like he was toying with opponents, he'd just cruise around with the puck doing whatever he wanted. So fun to watch.

Scored again tonight in a fight filled blowout at the hands of the Amerks. Lost 7-2 but he still got on the scoreboard and was one of 2 players who finished an even plus minus for the griffins

Hasnt gone a game yet this year without at least a point including NHL preseason.

Watching him play, he just hangs onto the puck and looks way too good for the AHL.

If he keeps his play up much longer the wings are gonna have to make room for him somehow, it cant be ignored

I'm interested to know where the hype ends and reality begins on this guy. Anyone got an objective viewpoint?

You never know with a prospect what you've got but all this talk makes him sound like a possible star at the NHL level when he gets there - is that fair or people buzzing about a hot start/season? I picked GN up in my fantasy league this week - I'm hoping the hype can be met!

Well counting the prospects tournament, NHL preseason and AHL season hes well over a ppg, and was one of, if not the best NCAA prospect the last few years.

It could just be a hot start and he might slow down some but even the wings brass were saying if he keeps his play up theyll have to get him on their roster.

Time will tell, but I would say youre looking at a definite top 6 forward

Yeah, he's a top 6 forward in the NHL. I think he becomes a 20-40 type player in the NHL. He's just so skilled, so patient with the puck, and he works really hard. He is small but is so evasive and skilled that he can get out of trouble. He's just really shifty and reads the game well, but I'm a bit worried he won't even be in the NHL next season, as he's got 2 years of eligibility in the AHL.

I drafted him two years ago after his first year at Maine. Everybody told me I had wasted a pick:laugh:
I knew it was going to be a while because of the wings guidance of their rookies. but I believe this could change with GN. He could be fixture in their top 6 next year. (I hope)

Nyquist has been recalled and will be in the lineup vs the wild on tuesday.

Rare that a guy gets called up this early in his first year pro for a redwing.

Would love to see him play along side datsyuk

I've been watching this kid for awhile and he's always amazing. Every shift he takes he's doing something out of this world and is the most noticeable player on his line. He can play in any critital situation and he's the coaches choice in big games. He does it all from playing shutdown, clutch score, crisp passing, slick skating, vision... basically everything Zetterberg does.

Nyquist is a star in the making. He's going to be the next "Zetterberg" / "Datsyuk" type steal. I use to compare him to Nicklas Backstrom on the Capitals, but now I am thinking he will be a much more impact (and consistent) all-around better player than Backstrom will ever be.

Detroit is in good position to make a smooth transition from the Zetterberg / Datsyuk era like the Red Wings did from the Yzerman / Shanahan era.

If you're sick of Detroit being perennial contenders and want to see them become 'average', don't hold your breath... the Red Wings have lots of young studs in the works that's going to keep the machine rockin' and rollin'.

Let's slow down a bit shall we. He's talented but he isn't up there with those guys yet.

Babcock said hes not sure what line he will be on yet, but he said it will likely be in a scoring role.

I could see him playing on the wing with Zetterberg and Franzen. If he sticks for the whole year he could be a guy to watch for the calder, especially staying on aline with those guys

I'd love to see him on that line. Would make that line come back to life. Or something..

The most exciting news as a Wings fan for a long, long time.

Can't wait for tomorrow's game now!

Managed to pick him up as a FA in my fantasy league. To bad he's listed as a center though....

Fingers crossed he continues where he left off during prr-season.

so how did he do

He got some PP time and played 11 minutes or so I think.

The wings killed 9 penalties though and he wasnt on the PK so he didnt see much ice for good aprts of the game.

He had a good rush where he skated through a couple guys from his own zone to the other blue line and another really nice pass.

So flashes of skill were there but he didnt really get a chance to do much
