Could he be the modern day Dave Taylor(who had trouble in interviews early on due to a stutter)?

So, his first game back in the OHL after the WJC...

...and with Jan Jenik, who some are saying has been carrying Kaliyev, out with injury...

...all he does is drop 5 *assists* (the first three primary) to start setting up all his teammates.

Man oh man, please let this guy be legit...

He reminds me exactly of Galchenyuk. Skills for days, Skating could get better, great shot, good playmaking. His problem is really his work ethic , he never chases the puck never see him battling for the puck when he isn't in the offensive zone he is a ghost.

JVR'ish, maybe? There are some players whose offense is so good that you don't worry so much about the rest of their game. Especially when they are 6'2", and fairly strong. I don't Vanek type skill on the guy, but he has sneaky good vision and passing skills, though it's pretty clear he is about shooting.

Bottom line is that goal scoring is one of the hardest, most instinctive things to find in a hockey player. If Kaliyev's ability to score comes with him to the NHL then coaches will be able to overlook the fact that he isn't the most diligent of two way players.

how can anyone think Jan Jenik is carrying Kaliyev? I know 30 teams appear to have(in reality they probably know something about him that we do n't, like a mental illness or something), but did these people also miss Kaliyev's season last year? He's doing as expected. Nothing surprising at all about his statline and dominance. He's on pace for a 30 point improvement over last year which is always very good but no where near unheard of. Foudy, Veleno, Noel, Groulx among others had similar improvements last year. In the 7 games without Jenik this year he has 5 goals, 12 assists.

JVR was my comparison around draft day as well. I don’t think Kailyev is ever going to be an all around threat, but a guy you can shelter and will give you around 50-60 points per season. Great value as a second rounder.

Seriously i have not read that anywhere.

Yog S’loth is talking out of his *** again.

Jenik does not need Kaliyev either.

He's not making that up, it has been mentioned more than couple of times. For example, TSN just recently ranked Jennik 6th among affiliated NHL prospects, while they had Kaliyev 16th.

That does not mean Jenik is carying Kaliyev.

That means they are higher on Jenik which is a fair point.

Let’s not overreact.

I've been impressed by the Kings lately, with them really making some good picks and finding prospects in trades to add to their now plethora of prospects.

Another OHL D+1 player whose stats jump off the page.

35 goals, 76 points in 43 games. Considering he was the highest rated OHL player last draft on CS, and Kings got him at #33.

This is looking potentially to be a great pick.

Hardest slapshot in the OHL and a laserbeam wrister without any effort.

He is moving like a T-34 tank on the ice. Ironically he is wearing 34 too. That cant be coincidence.

Curious how his game will translate to the NHL.

Had 2 goals yesterday to bring his goals and points total to 37 goals, 79 pts in 46 games. What is also striking is he is 23 points clear of the next player on the team. Did LA commit a steal here as he was the highest rated OHL player by CSB pre draft.

All depends on how he is improving in the other areas of his game that are not up to NHL standards. All 31 teams knew he could score and that he'd likely score 50-60 goals this year. It is the other areas that got him into the 2nd round.

Na, there's gonna be a lot of teams wishing they picked him in the 1st round. He scores goals and does it a lot. His skating is average and his defense is average but that will improve. He's got the most important part down, and that's putting the puck in the net.

He certainly does not have a lot to work with, outside of Jenik and now Mysak.

His shot arsenal is too good to ignore. Skating is above average. Defensively and work ethic is kinda lazy. He will make it.

I think teams will regret not taking him.
