Na, there's gonna be a lot of teams wishing they picked him in the 1st round. He scores goals and does it a lot. His skating is average and his defense is average but that will improve. He's got the most important part down, and that's putting the puck in the net.

All I'm saying is that everyone knew that back in June and he still fell. Kudos to him for continuing to score...hopefully for him he can improve enough in the other areas of his game to make a smooth transition to the AHL and then the NHL.

I wanted him at 16 for the avs, would still trade Newhook for him. What a great pick, lots of teams will have egg on their face

Hope he is taking the time this extra long offseason to work on his top speed and acceleration, as this the only thing that might hold him back from being a top 6 player at the next level.

I just caught up on this thread and this exchange from last October made me laugh:

I just caught up on this thread and this exchange from last October made me laugh:

Back in October, 2019, there was no surging Stutzle and around the beginning of the OHL season, one that Byfield missed 1/3rd of in his draft year, and before any of the major tournaments.

It just shows I don't have anything personal against QB. At one time I was all about him. I just feel Stutzle is now better and if I have to spend something as valuable as the #2 OA, I want the best available, which to me is Stutzle.

I'm not sure why you're telling me this. I was simply pointing out a joke that you made last October that's even funnier now, after the draft lottery, since it could come true. That's all.

You quoted me, which pinged me, and I had to guess what you meant. I’ve had quite a few people “bashing” on m recently for choosing Stutzle and explaining why on the HFKings boards. So I wasn’t sure if your intent. Apologies. :)

Does he strike anyone else as another (potential) Dany Heatley?
Even Heatley was more involved.

If Kaliyev ever makes it, I am thinking more Brett Hull (stylewise). He has the best slapshot in juniors and should score a lot to make up for other shortcomings.

ehh...he's a specialist. A goal scorer, and someone who is the triggerman on your PP. Complaining about him not backchecking is liking complaining about a supermodel being a bad housekeeper, or a Lamborghini having bad fuel mileage.

Yes. Have not watching him a ton but I was more impressed with him when he last played internationally than this year. Great shot and not much else.

It seems strange to me that Team USA is using him in the slot on the powerplay. I would think that you'd want him on the boards, where teammates could tee him up to shoot the puck, which is the one thing that he does really well.

Fair point. I think in Kaliyev's case, however, his detractors feel he could be so much better if he saw the game better.

Blowing clappers by goalies works in juniors but is less effective against NHL goalies in the smaller windows in pro hockey.

I'd imagine he can be frustrating as a linemate; when a player works himself into a prime scoring area but Kaliyev doesn't see him and forces a shot instead.
