I really hope Detroit made a good choice considering there were so many good prospect left at n20.

The guy wants to make Red Wings roster this year, good luck :sarcasm:.

Yeah, I don't know about that... he'd have to totally destroy every prospect in the upcoming prospect camp and out perform Nyquist or Franzen, because there is no way he is playing in the bottom 6.

Well looking at his videos, he seems to have an amazing shot and is a great skater. He also seems to be smart as he gets himself open to score and plays a pure sniper game. And while he's big and can handle his own, being physical is not a major part of his game. All of this reminds me of Heatley.

I think so. Great pick if you ask me.

I think it's a great pick for the organization. Just going off scouting reports he seems like a guy who a team that can properly develop and coach might turn out very good.

Except Heatley is a crappy skater and not very smart.

Main thing with him I think is to simply let him play his game. Sure he needs to work on the defensive side of his game a bunch of stuff. However, if you think he has to play the grinding game in order to play for you, then I don't think it's going to work out. Let him play the Brett Hull, Jeff Carter, Dany Heatley game, then I think you could have a winner. Love this pick for Detroit. Hope it turns well for him and Wings fans.

Latendresse would probably be a great player today if he was not rushed and given hero status at such a young age. It ruined him IMO. If Mantha is a Latendresse then he could be great if managed properly.

Detroit ins't exactly known to rush prospects.

It would be unlike the wings to work that way too. He got guys like Tatar and Frk to outperform as well, not an easy task.

If he shows that he has toughness, physicality and defense, without losing any of that scoring ability, Mantha will make the NHL in short order. I have tremendous doubt he does that, but if he does... he'll make the Avalanche look like fools.

I honestly don't want to see him with the Wings until he has been the AHL for at least a year. No need to rush a potential franchise player and ruin him.

Latendresse ruined himself by threatening to re-enter the draft if they sent him back to junior.Unless Mantha is an idiot, he won't be rushed by Detroit.

I highly doubt the Avs are going to feel bad about drafting MacKinnon over Mantha, if that's what you mean.

Lol detroit is like that spoiled rich kid who somehow eats and ***** success like its nothing. you just know now that mantha was drafted by the wings he will have success in the nhl

He'll be 23 years old, playing in the AHL being labled as this great prospect while other guys in this draft will be labeled as busts because they've been in the NHL for 3 years and haven't seen great success.

Detroit is by far the best fit Mantha could have hoped for. This is an organization with structure, ethos and solid coaching/development. He could tap into his James Neal potential. On the other hand, if he had been picked by Columbus, he'd probably become a bust.

:shakehead

No, and right now they shouldn't be. But if Mantha is good enough to make the Wings without being an injury callup this year and hits his upper, upper potential, then they very well may. I don't believe that it is likely at all, but it could happen.

He reminds me a ton of Jeff Carter and that is who I've always compared him to. Speed, size, shooting abilities, goal-scorer mentality. Not very physical, can dissapear at times, so-so defensively. Can have shifts where he is a god, but that doesn't happen often. Deadly wrister.

Watching those videos -- it's hard to imagine a less exciting highlight reel. There isn't much flash or energy in his game. The shots don't look as good as the goalies look terrible.
But he's a 50 goal guy -- so something is right with this kid.
I'd guess one more year in the Q and a then a good year in Grand Rapids is what we're looking at before he gets a chance with the Red Wings.
Only two years and a few months from draft day would be extraordinarily fast for the Wings - so maybe even longer.

Wings forwards prospects ETA in Detroit
2013-14 - Tatar
2014-15 - Jarnkrok, Sheahan, Ferraro, Jurco
2015-16- Frk, Pulkinnen (?), Tvrdon (?), Athanasiou (?), Mantha (?)

I don't see how the Wings can possibly develop all these kids and wouldn't mind trading a couple away

That isn't describing Jeff Carter as much as it is describing Johan Franzen. This kid screams Franzen 2.0. I just hope he limits his disappearing act to one per season.
