By some accounts, Drouin was good in camp, but safe and a bit tentative, and not quite ready physically. Needed another Q year more than Mantha, imo, but still projects as high or higher in the end.

Of course... I just don't know why Drouin came into the conversation about Mantha. They're two different players.

I wouldn't say there's nothing for him to learn in juniors. In december he'll likely be invited to camp for team Canada. Also, although Mantha is making Val d'Or a contender, there's still a good chance he'll get traded to Rimouski/BC or another contender. There's also still some work to do defensively. Better work on this now than in the AHL.

Also, I think his late-birthday will serve him well. Playing in the AHL would be perfect for him next year.

Whether he keeps this pace up or not I just hope he's working on his intensity like he said he would. He's still got a lot to learn even in the Q.

Agreed. We all knew he could score, though maybe not at this high of a rate, as long as he is working on his consistency level at both ends of the ice & is working on his defensive game I'll be happy.

I think he has chance to be the first teen to play for the Wings since Jiri Fischer did back in 99-00.

He will be 20 before next season starts.

I agree, he's on the perfect path of development. He's at a point in the Q where he can focus on the finer points of his game while still dominating. Sounds like he has taken on more of a leadership role and another year to fill into his frame more will all be beneficial before he makes the jump next year.

I think the youth movement will be in full effect in Detroit next year after they struggle to make the playoffs this year. Tatar and Nyquist will be regulars. Jurco, Sheahan, and Almquist should have legit chances to make the team, possibly Ouellet and Sproul as well. If Mantha continues to progress I think he'll get a call up or two next year and make the team in 2015-16.

You said Mantha would have made any other team out of camp and Tampa sent a guy who was drafted higher than Mantha back to the same junior league. I think most teams would have sent Mantha back, especially since he was a later 1st round pick and usually those teams have fewer holes in their roster to fit a guy in like that. I don't think Mantha was so great in camp for the Wings that they had to make room for him... he was going back to the Q no matter what, give him some things to work on and hope he develops well.

He probably isn't making the Wings out of camp next year either, but a hot start in the AHL could get him some looks earlier than the Wings typically wait for prospects.

While this is definitely a hot streak, it's not like it's just Anthony. This is Val D'Or as a team playing really well. Makes you wonder if his previous season was what he could do with an okay team and these totals are closer (but again, still inflated) to what he can do with the right support group. He certainly has no problem with stepping up and being the guy to carry the team.

it's high but for junior it's not unheard of. Most years leading scorers hang around 25%.

to be fair he was only at 15.5% last year when he scored 50 so it's quite the jump

that said he's also shooting a lot more than last year and even with a much more modest shooting % jump to say 20% he would still be leading the league in goals by 2 or 3

Val d'Or wins it in OT after Sherbrooke came back up. Mantha ends the night with 3 goals and 2 assists (+4).

Jérémy Roy is awesome too. Already 10 points in 12 games for a rookie d-man.

Chew on this one, though: Mantha had 5 point nights back to back. That's a 10 point weekend.

He's only scored 1 point once this season, and he's never been without a point. He's scored at least 1 goal in 7 of 9 games. It's 9 games in and he's already had 3 hat tricks.
