Typical stat watcher....
I've watched pretty much all of Djurgårdens games this season and most of Frölundas. Eklund is driving the play on that line, not the other way around.
Holtz is gonna be a stud, and he will for the majority of his career score more goals than Raymond. But Raymond is the better play driver and he will drive the play better down the road, which might lead to him outproducing Holtz point wise. But goal wise, Holtz will score more.
You must have missed the part where I said I’ve been watching the team... “typical stat watcher” lmao. You’re not even worth it

That's Holtz strenght imo, he's not the one that gonna lead a line and drive the play. However he will make that player even better because he will deliver. I haven't seen Hughes play but I assume going #1 that he's the type of player who will have the puck on his stick and drive the play a lot, and will benefit from playing with Holtz just like Holtz will benefit from playing with him. If Holtz pan out in the NHL that is

yea, Hughes is a play driver. He was one of the better transition players last year and only McDavid and MacKinnon dumped the puck into the offensive zone less than he did when cutting through the neutral zone.

finished 3rd in possession exits per 60 minutes and 12th in possession entries per 60 minutes.

Hopefully they have chemistry together because even just as a hockey fan it will be exciting to watch

Disappointing World Juniors for Holtz and his team.

Can he be a line driver?

No, but not all players have to be.

He was always going to be a quite one-dimensional goal scorer at the NHL level... and he was snake bit in the tournament, so of course he didn't look great. He could have played the same and ended up with 7 goals in the tournament if he had been on a good streak.

No. He is not one dimensional

I don’t think he can drive a line on his own.

very disappointed in what I saw.

he can still be a good NHLer his ceiling just isn’t high as what I thought it was on draft day.

comparison : Brock Boeser / TJ Oshie

In my opinion he is, but you're free to have a different opinion from mine.
Yes, sure. It is good to base the opinion on smth, because this "one dimensional" talk has been generated last year as a "knock" against Holtz, because "he is a goal-scorer" and they are one-dimensional

I think he has improved his overall game since last year. Puck handling and skating is improved. I wonder what happened to his goal scoring though. He's been a goal scoring machine never seen before up until he started playing in the SHL. I honestly didn't think he looked very dangerous even in his favorite spots at this years tournament.

We can hope it's just a cold streak.

Not his best tournament at all but still ended up with the most sog in the tournament (to this point). I can count on two hands the amount of times he got robbed or hit a post or cross bar.

Håkan Andersson mentioned it before the draft, he needs to work on getting a faster release.
At lower levels he has been able to beat goalies just by good placement and a hard shot. But to beat top-goalies consistently at higher levels he needs to be able to get the puck off way quicker to beat them.

He also needs to work on expanding the range of where he is able to get off a one-timer. It feels like he at the moment only shoots one timers when the pass is perfectly placed, to reliably be able to take one-timers on the PP you need to be able to shoot even if the pass isn't perfect.

I wouldnt put to much stock in the WJC as a milestone on how much a player has progressed one way or the other. In such tournaments some players get snakebitten, others go on a unusual hot streak. Then there are other factors that come into play such as team quality, line chemistry or the whole covid situation this year. Holz performed well in the SHL so far, wich should be a much more important indicator of his progress this year. A couple of months ago everyone said he is a steal and compared him to some of the better goal scorers in the NHL and now he is a disapointment all of a sudden. Typical hfboards recency bias, wich is even stronger right now because people hadnt had hockey in NA since the NHL playoffs.

I thought Holtz’s defensive game game was great this week. He was first forward back quite often. The goals will come, but he already has a mature two way game. He wasn’t perfect defensively, but the willingness and effort was there.

The one thing that irked me the most was his sluggish skating. He seemed absolutely winded most of the time. I think part of this was not having a 1C, so he and Ray were pushed to worry defensively first.

Exactly. He had 21 shots in the tournament. Leads the tournament through the QF's. There are valid criticisms, but these games are such a small sample. Point or goal totals should not be scrutinized to such a big degree in assessing players from this tournament.

Anyone following Djurgården more closely than me know why Holtz hasn't been playing in the two games vs Brynäs?
Is he injured in some way? Or has he just been cut?

What has happened to him? I haven't heard anything about him lately, and his point production has been quite underwhelming after the WJC-20.

2 points last 16 games. Struggling pretty badly. Haven't seen a lot of games but when I have, he's been invisible. I think even before the WJC his point production felt inflated. Eklund was driving offense and Holtz got the benefit. Eklund has also slowed down and I don't think they've been playing together all the time either lately.

I really hope he has been playing thru an injury all season because this hasn't been ideal.
You would believe it has to be, his play was exceptional before the WJCs, it's not uncommon to see prospects play drop during a season, bit it is uncommon to the degree of this drop.

And if he's hurt, maybe he should be resting.

Haven't followed him at all this year but he's still got 18 points in 40 games. He must have had a great 1st half if he only has 2 points in his last 16.

He's under contract in Sweden through next season so let's see if he takes another leap.

Based on the reports from NJD I would be very surprised if Holtz plays in Sweden next year. It sounds as if he will go to NA as soon as his season is over in Sweden.
