2 points last 16 games. Struggling pretty badly. Haven't seen a lot of games but when I have, he's been invisible. I think even before the WJC his point production felt inflated. Eklund was driving offense and Holtz got the benefit. Eklund has also slowed down and I don't think they've been playing together all the time either lately.
Excellent news, Dennehy Academy will sort him out.
Unfortunately with Visa concerns, this season can't be salvaged. Can't emphasize this enough. Mark Dennehy has done a fantastic job with player development as head coach for Binghamton. In terms of preparing prospects for professional play and transitioning to the NHL, it's night and day compared to where the Devils' AHL affiliate(s) used to be.
It's a bummer how Holtz's second half of the season turned out, but the skill is still there and at this point I have no reason to doubt his ability to hit his ceiling.
Excellent news, Dennehy Academy will sort him out.
There was an Athletic article some week ago where Fitzgerald says the only way they don't bring him over as soon as his season ends is if the Swedish NT picks him out play at Worlds.Based on the reports from NJD I would be very surprised if Holtz plays in Sweden next year. It sounds as if he will go to NA as soon as his season is over in Sweden.
Would love to see him come over to NA.
With NJ's development of prospects, he'll be fine.
As a Wings fan I’ll guess this is a snarky comment. If so, poor prospect development isn’t true under the current GM/coach. The last two years NJ has developed Sharangovich Kuokkanen and likely Maltsev into NHL players. They’ve got a bunch on the edge like McLeod and Bastian. Oh and Ty Smith is 20. NJ products were held back by having to play in a system implemented by the prior coach but once the GM and coach were changed prospects have done quite well. So yes, Holtz will almost certainly develop well in the current NJ system.
I don’t blame anyone for being defensive regarding remarks made about the Devils development of prospects. It used to be garbage / non existent . Largely due to the fact they had dire need to rush some into the NHL lineup.
Zacha was taken (mistakenly) in the draft as the Devils had literally zero NHL C (zajac injured) . They thought big bodied Zacha was most nhl ready (size and defensive play).
That , and other terrible draft choices set the devils back years (Tedendby pick over J Carlson , Zacha over Barzal Rantanen Connor etc etc )
Now , they finally have the prospect pool where they are not forced to be rushed into a role they might not be ready for.
Having said all that , I am concerned about Holtz and his lack of goal scoring ever since the WJC . A change of scenery and hopefully and injection of some confidence will help him out .
Im not concerned. Djurgarden is trash and hasnt utilized him to succeed.
The only good thing might be that his performance thus far has lowered the expectation and might make it easier for him to succede. Or he will bust.
I want him to be great, i hope this is just is a bump on the road to the stars.I don’t think he’ll bust. Lots of talent there. It might take him some time to put it all together. He might have a lower ceiling than we originally thought. But I still think he can be a 20 goal, 40 point guy at worst.
I’m not worried about him. Once he gets to play with Hughes it will get ugly for goalies fast.
Devils fans must be so excited for the prospect of seeing Holtz and Hughes together. Imagine if you get Eklund too LoL, that powerplay with Smith up top would be NASTY! Or do you prefer they draft one of the top D's available?
We need defense. We have a plethora of good young forwards. But, if we miss out on the top D, I wouldnt mind going BPA with Eklund.
